10 Things in my 'Back to School' Bag

10 Things in my 'Back to School' Bag

A fun and easy-to-do 'back to school' activity for your new class, which is ideal for getting to know each other and for creating a first day display. The objective of the lesson is for the children to create an imaginative list of 10 things that they would like to have in their school bag for the first day of a new school year. Their choices can be as strange or as sensible as they like, allowing for plenty of creative writing opportunities. The resource has two writing frames - one for a simple decorative piece and one for adding more imaginative written details - so the task can easily be differentiated to your class' needs. I have used the activity across KS2, but it can also be easily adapted for younger children. Includes: • Teacher PowerPoint presentation - provides instructions and examples for introducing the activity. • Writing frame 1 - can be completed with personal details and the 10 chosen items and then used for display. • Writing frame 2 - can be used to add imaginative written details about each of the children's 10 items and can then also form part of the display. An Inspector Calls Comprehension Activities Booklet!

An Inspector Calls Comprehension Activities Booklet!

This resource booklet contains a wide range of age-appropriate, engaging, and meaningful comprehension activities for use throughout the reading of J.B. Priestley's 'An Inspector Calls.' Teachers have found them particularly useful in exam revision, comprehension tasks, or guided reading sessions. They are perfect for aiding the progress of students towards meeting the KS4 expectations within the new National Curriculum framework - this makes the tasks suitable for all examining bodies. Students have found these resources extremely engaging, and for teachers there is explicit information within each task regarding which comprehension strands the task is designed to demonstrate. They also relate to key extracts, characters, and themes from the story, ensuring that students gain a deep understanding of the text. Activities within the booklet include: - 'Context: Pre-War Britain' - to aid students with 'Drawing on knowledge of the purpose, audience and context of the writing, including its social, historical and cultural context and the literary tradition to which it belongs, to inform evaluation;' - 'Priestley's Description' - to aid students with 'Analysing a writer’s choice of vocabulary, form, grammatical and structural features, and evaluating their effectiveness and impact;' - 'The Inspector' - to aid students with 'Seeking evidence in the text to support a point of view, including justifying inferences with evidence;' - 'Editing the Play' - to aid students with 'Making an informed personal response, recognising that other responses to a text are possible and evaluating these.' Plus many, many more activities (the booklet is around 30 pages in length!) I've also added it as a PDF in case the formatting differs on your computer. All images are licensed for commercial use, and are cited on a separate document (included).

KS1 & 2 Writing Flipchart

KS1 & 2 Writing Flipchart

This 23 page Flipchart is designed to support KS1 and 2 students with their written classwork and homework in the National Curriculum. With 20 pages including: punctuation, parts of a sentence, nouns, adjectives for characters and settings, verbs, adverbs, synonyms for overused words, conjunctions, reading comprehension questions for parents and teachers, plus a writing checklist for children to self assess. Each page has clear examples for how to use the Punctuation, Grammar and Vocabulary. This resource can be printed and bound as a Flipchart or a Book. Children can focus on one target or several. If their target is to use more adverbs in their writing they use the contents page to find out what page the adverbs are on and flick to that page. Then they can choose a suitable and more interesting adverb to put into their writing. Though this resource was originally intended to support KS1 students, after I researched all the vocabulary and tested it with several of my KS2 students they also found it very helpful therefore I recommend it for KS2, especially lower abilities. The Font is OpenDyslexic which has bottom heavy letters to support those students that are visually impaired or have Dyslexia.

K-2 The Writing Process Folder, Classroom Posters, and Writing Sheets

This writing folder is the perfect way for students to keep track of where they are in the writing process. By combining two folders, students who work at different paces, can place their work in the section of the folder that correlates where they are in the writing process. This also reinforces the process overall. This download includes directions for assembling the folder using two 2-pocket folders, student brainstorming sheet and several writing sheets, and classroom posters.
