German alphabet

German alphabet

Teacher presentation introducing the German alphabet. Puzzle to solve first as the starter rearranging a familiar phrase. Then there is drilling of the alphabet sounds. Pupils complete a short dialogue introducing themselves and spelling their name. To consolidate learning there is a quiz of 9 common German words in the English language e.g. Fahrenheit that the pupils have to spell using their knowledge of the German alphabet. Also included is a print out of the alphabet that is ideal for learners to stick in their book for future reference and encourage independent learning.

Grammar Jenga

Grammar Jenga

1. Purchase enough Mini-Jenga sets (Topple Tower) for each group of 4 in your class (= £1 each)! 2. Label each wooden block with a number (1-48?)! 3. Assign to each number a challenge: e.g. grammar (conversion [spielen = gespielt]/translation [spielen = to play]/answer [Hast du am Freitag Federball gespielt?]) e.g. vocabulary (conversion [spielen = das Spiel]/translation (Wir haben am Samstag das Spiel verloren! =We lost the game on Saturday!)/sentence [spielen = Ich spiele Samstags mit Freunden im Park Fussball!]) e.g. pronunciation (word [verlieren = /fe-lear-r£n])/sentence prominence/intonation) 4. Provide each student group with the challenge sheet and the answer sheet. 5. Ascribe points to Easy (1), hard (2) and harder (3) tasks and students tally their scores. 6. Play Jenga as per normal, but the winner is the one with the most points from the challenges. My thanks to Emilie Burguin for her inspiration!

Der Alphabet Rap

Der Alphabet Rap

Great way to teach the alphabet - the students love it. I use it in my beginners German class to teach the alphabet. I then split the class into two teams and have a rap war - great fun!

Das ganze ABC song

Das ganze ABC song

Written originally for beginner students in Year 8 this song has also been sung with great enthusiasm by older students. There are three consecutive Powerpoints and recordings of the song to assit in memorising the vocabulary. A great item for assembly or performances for family concerts. CathyJay
