Reinforcing notation, rests, and time signatures for year 7 and 8. Good for cover.

Reinforcing notation, rests, and time signatures for year 7 and 8. Good for cover.

Just sit down - be quiet and do the work while I get on with the next load of data!! Designed to do just this but actually has really really helped! Students enjoyed the puzzle layout and how they could, if higher ability finish the entire sheet. Covers and revises key concepts of notation. I could mark an entire class AND give feedback AND get them to respond within one lesson. Have also used some classes to peer assess with our schools stickers attached. Boom! Box ticked! With lower ability students I handed out 1 per group of 2 or three to bolster confidence and it worked a charm - then giving those students who played an instrument the “privilege” of acting as my deputy. PRINT ON A3 then fold in half.

A fun colourful teaching and revision of notation. Also intro to orchestra.

Lower school. Follow Rosie and Hoops as they help Professor Blithe work out the clues to the next mystery!! Resource introduces students to rhythm sums, notation spellings, composers, instruments of the orchestra, sharps and flats, and notes on the keyboard. Not going to lie - could mark this during the lesson that got the powers that be off my back, looked impressive when there were 350 of these all marked with feedback. Students enjoyed it and the lower ability GCSE enjoyed doing it “felt like doing a puzzle in a magazine”. It has massively helped with writing of sharps and flats and understanding of naturals.

Introduction to Band Work - Another Day in Paradise. Includes chords, tabs, lyrics & explanations

Introduction to Band Work - Another Day in Paradise. Includes chords, tabs, lyrics & explanations

This is a great project for classes who are being introduced to band work for the first time. You can teach all of the parts of this song including the ostinato line, chords on the piano and ukulele, lyrics for singers. There is also a very clear structure for bands to follow as well as lessons on how to play a chord and follow a chord structure. When teaching this topic as a whole class, student are very often able to go into bands and put the parts together as a rock/pop band. I always teach this as the final topic for my Year 8s at the end of the Summer Term ready for Year 9.

Listening Diary - Key Stage 3 Music

Listening Diary - Key Stage 3 Music

Start every lesson with some listening! In my KS3 lessons we start every lesson by listening to a piece of music related to what we are studying. Students have “listening diary” booklets, and are asked the same questions each time - what instruments can you hear? What is the genre? Then for each piece there will be a question about the elements of music “eg how would you describe the dynamics?” and a “bonus question” about anything you like! This resource includes 2 listening diaries, one suggested for Y7 and one for Y8 and 9. They are similar, but with different profile questions at the start. Students have this booklet all year to keep track of their listening. I usually print mine out black and white to save colour printing. Also included is an example powerpoint slide. I start every one of my KS3 lessons with a slide like this. Feel free to modify and use as you like!

The Greatest Showman 10 minute medley

The Greatest Showman 10 minute medley

This is a 10 minute medley that I have edited and produced. It would be great for a school performance or an assembly activity. The songs included (in order) are: The greatest show, Million Dreams, This is Me and Come Alive. There are 3 files to this resource: The Song Sheet the lyrics are in two colours, Black for solo singing parts that can be split to suit your group and Blue for the ensemble parts. The Medley MP3 This is a medley arranged by myself, it is a backing track but the original singers remain for the ensemble parts just to give the kids a bit of help. The Medley with singing MP3 I have recorded the song with vocals to show where the solo parts come in. I performed this medley with KS1 and Lower KS2 children. I split the solo parts into 3-4 lines each child, either alone or in little groups. They had no trouble learning their parts and the added ensemble vocals gave the volume needed for the big chorus parts. Please leave a review and happy singing!

PROCESSIONS Women’s Suffrage, democracy and gender equality exploration

PROCESSIONS Women’s Suffrage, democracy and gender equality exploration

Inspired by the ideas, themes and history behind PROCESSIONS https://www.processions.co.uk/, our aim is for this resource to be a starting point for your pupils/students to explore and learn about the history of Women’s Suffrage, democracy and gender equality. We have created some simple and easy to follow activities to include in your teaching plans, which will encourage your pupils/students to develop historical knowledge and awareness of Women’s Suffrage as well as offering an opportunity to discuss gender equality within today’s context. Activities encourage responses through discussion, movement, debate, music and visual art. The resources are primarily designed for Years 5-8 in England and Wales, Years 6-9 in Northern Ireland and P6-S2 in Scotland, but they’re easily accessible for lower and upper age ranges. We want to encourage your pupils/students to explore their own views and opinions on gender equality today, as well as gaining an understanding about the importance of democracy and using your vote. Only 57% of 18-19-year olds voted in the last election (source YouGov website) and we want this project to encourage young people to vote in the future and inspire them to have their voice heard. This resource pack provides creative ideas as to how to work with your pupils/students. It is modular so it can be followed through from beginning to end or activities can be picked out and used individually. At times you might work with the class as a whole and at other times you may task smaller groups with the different activities provided. We have suggested subject links as part of each activity to help make useful connections with your teaching plans. These activities when paired with our banner-making toolkits will give your students/pupils stimuli and inspiration for the content of their banners. We would love schools to take part in the PROCESSIONS on the 10th of June, but acknowledge that this may not be possible for all, so we want to stress that this pack can be used before or after the event and used to inspire pupils, students and teachers using the themes and ideas behind PROCESSIONS. Produced by Artichoke and commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, PROCESSIONS will commemorate 100 years since the first women in the UK won the vote. On Sunday 10th June 2018, thousands of women and girls, those who identify as women and non- binary individuals, will form four epic processions in the four political capitals of the UK – Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London. Given green, white or violet to wear, the colours of the suffrage movement whose initials stood for “Give Women Votes”, they will together create waves of colour as they celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage.
