KS3 French Cover Lesson Design your own Monster

KS3 French Cover Lesson Design your own Monster

This lesson covers: designing and labeling your own monster in French. Students will learn and use words search as furry, grumpy, claws, teeth etc. This lesson works really well as a cover lesson. It is easy for non-specialists to follow but supports and challenges KS3 students of French very well. It could also be adapted for use in lessons by specialists in order to introduce / revise parts of the body / adjectives. It would be helpful but not necessary if students have done some work on adjectives in French. Lesson involves: Differentiated objectives and starter activity (short translations related to monster descriptions). Activity 1: Team work using dictionaries. Students are gathering store of words so they can design and label their own monster. Next slide gives answers to students so they can write down whatever they were unable to find. Challenges are included on each slide. Activity 2: Differentiated translation task using key vocabulary they have just looked up in teams. Key words provided as well as higher challenge. Next slide contains answers for peer / self-assessment. Main activity 3: 'apply' task: students design their own monster using key vocabulary they have learnt. Again, this is differentiated by task with key works provided on ppt. Pyramid review to finish

Body Parts - Les Parties du corps - Phonics, Dictionary Skills and Grammar

Body Parts - Les Parties du corps - Phonics, Dictionary Skills and Grammar

There are 13 files in this resource which introduces and consolidates the vocabulary for parts of the body. I have taken a different approach with this topic. Instead of a presentation I have allowed the pupils to 'discover' the vocabulary themselves. Starting with the French pronunciation exercise (1), they are learning how to recognise sounds and pronounce unfamiliar words. They find key vocabulary in the dictionary skills activity (2). This is enhanced by work on nouns, recognising masculine or feminine and a brief review (or introduction) of how to form plurals (3). The translation worksheet (4) has implausible sentences in French and should access prior learning of numbers and allows for using all that has been learned in the previous activities. Also included is a visual starter activity, a wordsearch and 'bodies' to print out and label. Answers and solutions have been included where appropriate.
