#### Constructions extension incircles and circumcircles

A good way to get students using constructions with a purpose! The lesson takes students through how to construct incircles and circumcircles - giving them lots of practice with constructing triangles, angle bisectors and perpendicular bisectors. The worksheet is best done using geogebra. My year 9s produced some really great work. All answers included.

#### GCSE Loci and construction cheat sheet

This document includes a step by step guide on how to complete the different loci and construction that can appear in the GCSE syllabus. It also includes hand drawn examples of what most of them should look like. An idea for this may be to get the students to complete their own version of this as a revision exercise or to hand this out as a revision tool. I have found that this topic is a tricky one to teach effectively so why not get them to break it down for themselves.

#### Triangle area activity

A challenging activity on the theme of triangle area, suitable for year 11 revision. The initial questions require a knowledge of basic triangle area, Pythagoras’ theorem, SOHCAHTOA, the sine rule and 1/2absinC so a good, challenging revision task. The questions have been designed with a ‘minimally diferent’ element, to draw pupils attention to how subtle changes can have significant implications for selecting methods. There are some follow-up questions, that could be used to shift the focus of the activity. I’d love to hear anyone’s suggestions of further questions.

#### Constructions and accurate drawings lesson (lines, angles, perpendicular/angle bisector, triangles)

Please rate and review! Time saving resource for busy teachers! You should be able to teach a lesson with hardly any preparation (mainly printing and maybe some cutting!). Fully differentiated objectives: Blue: Draw accurate lines, angles, circles and triangles (using ruler and protractor) Gold:Construct perpendicular bisectors (including through a point) Red:Construct angle bisectors Challenge (Purple): construct a triangle using a compass (this is not on the powerpoint and is an independent task for students to see if they can work it out) This resource includes: • A PowerPoint • A differentiated Work booklet that includes self-assessment sections • Answers ( I recommend printing them onto tracing paper as it is very easy to mark then!) • 3 foldable how to guides for how to do constructions (perpendicular bisector, perpendicular bisector through a point, angle bisector). This is for students to have some independent learning/to help with revision in place of putting it all on the powerpoints. See the preview pictures for what they look like. The PowerPoint includes the following format (watch the preview video Here): • Objective and levels • A “how to teaching portion” with animated examples • Plenary (with answers) Recommendations: Print off the 3 per page foldables on different colours for different topics (see the cover image for an example) -This will involve some extra preparation from the teacher Print off the 3 topics on one page foldables on white and students can colour the titles in and cut out the foldables themselve - less preparation for the teacher The powerpoint and booklet are currently set up for GCSE maths grades, however you can edit the grades to reflect KS3 or your own schools assessment criteria. In the word booklet if you change any grade (e.g the blue section) it should automatically change the rest of that colour into the same grade. This will take up a whole lesson at least.

This activity incorporates lots of different concepts: Ratios/Scales Bearings Speed, distance, time Pythagoras Area problem solving Edit and remove questions as you want. If you print at 100% the scale will be 1.5cm to 250m Otherwise you might have to give it a measure if you print to fit Also: The locations from the bearings are locations required for one of the challenges this season to get them even more engaged. Half my class have taken the work home to finish so they can gain in game rewards

#### Fortnite Battle Bearings

#### Operation Bearings - Outdoor bearings activity

This is an adapted activity for practising bearings outdoors. Students are asked to use compasses on their phones to follow instructions on bearings. I had the students dropping a cone at each stage and trailing a piece of string behind them. Following correctly results in an arrow being formed on the ground, this can then lead to questioning like ‘we all started in different places, facing different ways, why are the arrows pointing the same way?’. They can then be extended to write their own instructions or story of bearings to follow. I found the original on a blog but with a photo of the worksheet, I re-wrote it, changed ‘clicks’ to ‘steps’ to work on a smaller scale and added an extension. I used this with a lower set year 9, but could also work with advanced year 7s through to weaker year 10s I think.
