Shape Camouflage!

Shape Camouflage!

Purpose: This activity can be used for Kindgergarten and Primary school level students. Suggestion: The resource can be used as an art lesson or as a fun filler activity based on shapes and colouring. The object is to find the hidden shapes in the larger drawing. Each organic shape has been drawn by hand and has small and large patterns to help with coordination and the ability to discern shapes. Each pattern also has intricate designs that children can colour and decorate as an extension activity. In the past I ask students to coordinate colours with shapes and this has been really helpful in teaching new vocabulary. I also have used this in the unit: Camouflage as an introductory activity.

4 Colour Rhymes - green, pink, blue, silver/gold, EY, KS1-2 - original

4 Colour Rhymes - green, pink, blue, silver/gold, EY, KS1-2 - original

These punchy, fun rhymes each celebrate a colour, listing and describing different items of that colour in ways that bring it to life for children. The ‘green’ one is an action rhyme; the others are best read aloud. Invite further item suggestions for extra verses - they don’t need to rhyme, provided you can sustain the rhythm. Pick one of these to start a phonics, poetry or descriptive writing lesson. Children from Early Years to upper KS2 will find them thought-provoking and stimulating.

Art and Artists project for primary partnership schools

Art and Artists project for primary partnership schools

This project will focus on different French-speaking and British artists. The children will learn about who the artists are, where they are from and look at their artwork – deciding whether or not they like/dislike their work. The children will then create their own artwork in the style of that artist. This project is suitable for 2 to as many partner schools as possible.

Literacy : Awesome Adjectives (Display)

Literacy : Awesome Adjectives (Display)

**Literacy is a key ingredient to teaching that you expect to find in any classroom. The ‘Awesome Adjectives’ display is a bright and colourful resource that can be used in any subject area to support students with high level pieces of writing. ** This giant ‘describing words’ wall is great for students to refer to whenever they have to complete written analysis tasks. After a class discussion about the meanings of some of the describing words, students can start using them regularly in their writing - leading to the use of high level vocabulary. Print each page on A3 paper to create your display!

www.school-of-thought.co.uk

www.school-of-thought.co.uk

As a Fine Art and English post graduate of Liverpool Hope University I have developed an educational website that focuses on Learning & Teaching methodology. Its main aim is to develop and create independent learning and thinking, which can be used across many educational settings such as: Schools, Colleges, Universities, Adult Education and other educational settings. My approach has been to develop a more inclusive and holistic approach to learning when acquiring knowledge. For example, as an innovative learning practitioner, I have created digital resources that build on technical, practical and theoretical awareness and attainment ability; plus I have designed concepts geared towards expanding cognitive learning or thought strategies, that are specifically focused on analysis, both with research and the development towards personal concepts or ideas. The website offers a broad range of materials which highlights various areas of practical and critical theoretical concepts which include cognitive skills relating to Art and Design. The main aim of School of Thought is to bring together the often disparate worlds of Art Theory and Art Practical, enabling the learner to make much more informed outcomes, whatever their theme or topic may be. Using the creative thinking skills that these learning resources provide, as well as the practical, technical and critical theory recorded workshops, the learner is able to generate a wider range of outcomes and importantly to be able to discuss them using in-depth terminology. The main objective and purpose is to develop and create independent learning, thinking and a personal response towards creative outcomes. Ultimately, it is to enhance the experience of independent learning and to create a personal response towards progression between the key stages of development.
