Meatless Mondays School Kit

Meatless Mondays School Kit

Meatless Mondays are a fun and easy way for green-conscious schools to reduce their carbon and water footprint, encourage healthy eating, and empower students to make informed food choices. This kit contains colourful and well laid out resources to help you launch a Meatless Mondays initiative in your school. KIT CONTAINS: poster, information sheet, 2-part activity sheets Canteen tips available on the ThinkKind website, search ‘Meatless Mondays’. Did you know it takes 2,393 litres of water to make just one hamburger, and 15,415 litres to make one steak? Animal agriculture requires a huge amount of land, food, energy, and water. The WorldWatch Institute estimates that a staggering 51 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture, and the United Nations has also urged everyone to eat less meat to combat global warming. For green conscious schools who invest a lot of time and effort into teaching students to use less electricity, walk to school instead of driving, and take shorter showers (all great initiatives), this information may come as a surprise. The impact that raising livestock has on the environment is not as widely known as other factors, such as transportation and burning fossil fuels. If your school is serious about treading lightly on the planet, teaching students about the importance of eating less meat is vital.

Harvest Hoe Down - a new song for Harvest Assembly

Harvest Hoe Down - a new song for Harvest Assembly

Here's a KS1/2 Harvest song in a country style. It is written to have a line dance in the middle of it - you could do 'The Funky Cowboy' as demonstrated in the video, or get the children to create a 'Harvesting Line Dance' with digging and reaping actions. If you don't fancy the line dance, simply repeat a verse or write some lyrics of your own. There is a vocal demo, a backing track, a score and a set of lyrics.

The Wise Man Built his House upon the Rock - Four music lessons for EYFS and KS1

The Wise Man Built his House upon the Rock - Four music lessons for EYFS and KS1

The Wise Man Built His House upon the Rock These resources will support your delivery of the National Curriculum for Music. A progressive set of four step by step music lessons that work particularly well with EYFS and Key Stage 1 children. These four, easy-to-follow lessons, support children in developing a range of valuable skills including listening, performing, instrumentation and timing. They are based around the story of the wise man and the foolish man. These lessons require children to think about the consequences of actions and predict outcomes. Children also sing, play instruments and perform. You can have as few as four children or as many as you like. Limited musical resources are required. There is a suggested list but you can simply use what you have. The scheme includes a list of suggested resources, detailed lesson plans and a recording of the song. You do not have to have a musical background to use this scheme.

Climate Change, Pollution, Fracking and the Environment

Climate Change, Pollution, Fracking and the Environment

This resource is intended to facilitate independent inquiry and a choice of activity. Students should pick an activity and go through it, so this lesson works well with computers/iPads to access the resources attached which include video clips. There are also religious opinions and quotes to the environment, facilitating SMSC, RS, PHSE and Citizenship targets being met, and the lesson can of course be teacher led too. I usually give students 10-15minutes to feedback to the class what they found out.
