A Computational Thinking bundle of activities developing learning through unplugged tasks linking to a Space and Astronomy theme.

Resource links to New Zealand Curriculum: Digital Technologies Progress Outcomes 1-2, and explores the following aspects for computational thinking through hands on learning:

Algorithms

Sequence

Decomposition

Debugging

and an introduction to programming languages :)

Included in the zip folder is:

  1. A full lesson/activity overview with clear Learning Intentions and Assessment rubric.

  2. Teacher slides to aid the teaching of all the content in the overview.

When students are comfortable programming ByteEd around the Solar System, they then research into a star constellation and design a star map for the ByteEd Spaceship to explore! The teaching exemplar for the star map links to Matariki. Students can extend their programming skills by developing their own programming language for writing their algorithms to explore the star constellation!

This resource is part of a larger module of learning, created by ByteEd, introducing Python programming at primary level (aimed at Years 4 to 6+). More information can be found at https://vrvoom.education/home/
