Discovering plots and engaging creatively

Delve into the magical world of James and the Giant Peach using this simple storyboard, ideal for helping pupils to understand the opening section of the story.  Older learners can track their understanding of Fantastic Mr Fox with these comprehension worksheets, which encourages them to offer a written or visual response to questions.

Taking inspiration from George's Marvellous Medicine, this recipe resource pack takes learners into the kitchen to experiment with this cookery project.  Or, why not bring the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to life with this script excerpt and use drama to help students understand Dahl’s iconic characters.

This list of questions will prompt discussion amongst your class as they read Matilda, ranging from thinking about Dahl’s choice of words to understanding why characters act in certain ways.  And, once they’re familiar with the works of Roald Dahl, get students writing their own poetry, based on characters they love with help from these tips and techniques.
