Complete bilingual Tutorial to learn to teach French to toddlers

Complete bilingual Tutorial to learn to teach French to toddlers

This complete tutorial is designed for educators who want to learn how to teach French to Toddlers, through a range of structured lessons. It includes the link to a 20 minutes tutorial video helping all teachers (even complete French beginners) to teach French to children the best way and develop bilingualism. It comes with a printable teacher's guide. It includes a video of the story, designed as a kind of e-book, together with its printable storybook. There is also another video to introduce the prepositions (behind, in front of, under and above) together with the vocabulary (star, moon and sun). It comes with over 12 back-to-back flashcards to use with a centre of activity on topology (with 4 levels of games- using 1 to 4 new key prepositions). The game is available to print with clear instructions. You will also find printable craft activities to make and act out the story. Finally, I have also added a bilingual Questions/ Answers on early science facts about the stars, the moon and the sun. There are many ideas given on how to precisely extend and differentiate the students learning skills. Learning Objectives: In this tutorial, you will learn how to introduce simple sentences and expressions commonly used by French toddlers. They like repetitive games. Playing "Hide and Seek" help them make a psychological link between being present and absent, himself/ herself and others. Toddlers build a big part of their life through imitation and games. It also develops their creativity. This is why I have build this patterned story. I have also included few words of early science (Earth, star, moon, sun, sky, day, night) and prepositions (behind, in front, under, above, in). I recommend to use this resource preferably with toddlers and young children up to the age of 7. If you feel anything is missing to be entirely satisfied, I will gladly design and add whatever is necessary.

Tortoise and the Sardines

Tortoise and the Sardines

The story of the Tortoise and the Sardines is an African fable as well as a cautionary tale about the dangers of taking strangers at face-value. This enchanting fable is ideal for celebrating black history month, furthermore; the fable has been published in English, French and Spanish (the three crucial universal languages). The Book can therefore be used to advance young people’s knowledge of key stage 2 and 3 knowledge of French and Spanish in a way that is colourful, engaging and enjoyable.

Type in a word/phrase it the TL on one line and then the equivalent in English opposite it (as in the example). Do this within each inner section and then cut it up into cards. Pupils must then form a triangle with the cards by matching the TL to the English. Instructions are in the notes section of the PPT. It's worth Googling 'Tarsia puzzles'!

Groups of 3 or 4. Choose a pupil at random to choose a number. Click on the number (on your computer) to reveal a word. All pupils have 30 seconds to write a sentence using that word. The most impressive (and correct) sentence wins a point for their team.

Reading Challenge template

Reading Challenge template

One of my personal favourites! Have a reading text in the box. In 2 teams, pupils choose a word to find in the text. The pupils don’t know what each word is worth. Click on the word they have chosen when they have correctly identified it in the text and their score will be revealed. The winning team is the team with the highest score once all words have been found in the text. 3 slides with different scores.

Fading texts template

Fading texts template

Use the space on each slide to enter the words/phrases you want pupils to memorise whilst they’re fading automatically. They could then either write them out or translate them either during the fade or after. Each slide takes 10, 20 and 30 seconds to fade out.

Dice rolling paragraph template

Dice rolling paragraph template

Pupils work in pairs to produce a paragraph on any given topic. They take it in turns to roll the dice. The phrase corresponding to their number is the one they have to use. When they’ve completed it, they then learn it. Good practice for learning to learn! They must also check that the phrase makes sense. If it doesn’t (incorrect tense, etc.), they must roll again. It’s a good idea to print this off as well.

This pack has 57 different settings for students to talk about in French. The worksheets themselves are in English and the students do need to translate the places and objects they see into French. At the end of the session, the students can play a fun game of word bingo to show they have mastered that day's vocabulary. Try it, it is a lot of fun for everyone!

ALL the posters and displays you can find in my French classroom: - The weather displays (I put them next to the window and everyday a pupil changes the card depending on the weather outside - they love being in charge of the weather card - you can do a monthly rota) - The Monster verbs (I have a whole wall next to my board covered with those verbs - I print them in A3 format so everybody can see them in the class - I find it so useful to have them all there - students find them very useful and check them constantly. - The behaviour displays (two displays that I put each side of my whiteboard - I put positive ticks next to students name on the angel side of the board to reward good work and if names are written under the negative smiley, students know they are close to be given a sanction) - The instruction displays (I have them all around my whiteboard and interactive board - ask students to use the target language to ask to go out of the class or get a dictionary - they find it very fun to ask in French) - The idiom displays (I have a reading corner with French books in my classroom and these idioms are all over one of the walls - it is great for GCSE and A-level students to have interesting phrases to include in their writing and speaking) - The opinion and intensifier displays (great for GCSE and A-level students to improve their writing and vary the opinions they use) - The question displays (outside my classroom, I have French questions in speech bubbles as well as common phrases used in France - I print them on A3 paper too - you can add pictures of your students linked to the speech bubbles which looks fun and interactive) For a display on progress and Assessment for Learning with the accompanying classroom ressources, please copy this link or visit my shop to find the "thinking clouds/les nuages pensants": https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/thinking-clouds-poster-booklet-all-subjects-showing-progress-afl-plenary-11263600 I hope you will enjoy my resources and if you have a question, please do not hesitate to contact me or leave me a message. L'écrivaine, Francine Christophe, raconte un petit miracle vécu à Bergen-Belsen

I stumbled across this extraordinarily moving and hopeful clip yesterday and feel that it deserves a wider audience. In clear, careful and beautifully articulated French, author Francine Christophe recounts a little miracle that was born of an act of kindness in Bergen-Belsen. I've done very little other than to put together a transcript of the story, with a link to a second, related clip and a bibliography of Christophe's work. I've also included a link to a version of the clip with English subtitles for any of your anglophone colleagues who may be looking for something for their history classes or Remembrance Day.
