PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS 1-20 CHALLENGE CARDS

PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS 1-20 CHALLENGE CARDS

These PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS 0-20 CHALLENGE CARDS are really popular with my young and beginning learners of LATIN, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of LATIN numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in LATIN in general, and certainly in LATIN numbers in particular. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on Numbers 0-20, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in LATIN, but also to enjoy working with LATIN, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and are great for honing numeracy skills too - especially if calculators are not allowed! I’ve used English language mathematical symbols because learners are familiar with these, and are able to access and engage with the questions straightaway. The resource comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format: Set of 36 question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Depending on how long you want the activity to last for, choose a particular number of cards per small group of students, and place them in a tin, bowl or small box so that students can easily select a card, and then replace when they have answered the question. You can simply place all the cards in the bowl/box and let students work their way through, either in a single lesson, or across a series of lessons. Students do need to remember to file their recording sheets carefully! Colour & B&W answer recording sheet - colour & B&W background answer key, laminate for longevity - colour & BW background - one answer key for each small group is sufficient. 4 question cards template for students to apply their knowledge practically, and to create questions for each other - this is a really challenging and popular activity! Number reference sheet which students really useful as a learning support resource - it’s great as a year-round resource too, which they can put into their learning files/folders to call upon whenever they need it! Colour & B&W background. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - the resource is copyright, and for single-teacher / purchaser / classroom use only. GRATIA PLENA!

PRIMARY LATIN ANIMALS CARDS

IDEAL FOR DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE AND PRACTISING LANGUAGE SKILLS IN LATIN! LATIN ANIMALS GAMES CARDS are perfect for young learners of LATIN. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both masculine and feminine, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the general absence of determiners in LATIN too. It doesn’t matter if any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with LATIN and to begin to identify similarities with ENGLISH - encourage children to look for cognates and near-cognates such as DINOSAURUS and ELEPHANTUS for example. The games also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using linguistic as well as visual clues and prompts. For example, can they recognise CANINE from the LATIN word for dog? They may even know the adjective VULPINE - can they identify this from the noun for fox, VULPES? Along the way, children may even get to know some new animals and enhance their vocabulary in English too! There are 80 CARDS in total, which include 2 DECKS of 40 CARDS to enable you to vary and differentiate your games: DECK 1: matching LATIN & ENGLISH cards, with both the picture and the word. LATIN VERBS 25 MUST-HAVE VERBS REFERENCE LIST #1

LATIN VERBS 25 MUST-HAVE VERBS REFERENCE LIST #1

PERFECT FOR SUPPORTING LEARNING IN YOUR CLASSROOM! Create an instant reference resource for students focusing on essential LATIN verbs. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a collection of 25 high-frequency verbs that occur frequently in the beginning to intermediate stages of LATIN learning programmes. They include regular and irregular verbs, with some modals. They are all in the infinitive form, with the first person singular conjugated for additional support - it's an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognise LATIN verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at more conjugation and using the verbs in a practical context. Students shouldn't take on the task of learning 25 verbs all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing LATIN verb vocabulary. I’ve also gathered together three further collections of 25 ‘must-have’ verbs which you can download for free too. You might also be interested in my verb conjugation reference tables too, which are also free to download. There are two alphabetical lists - one LATIN-ENGLISH, and one ENGLISH-LATIN, as I’ve found that students prefer to have both as a reference resource. This resource consists of two non-editable files in a zipped format and is offered freely, but please read the TERMS OF USE carefully, as it is copyright. GRATIA PLENA!
