Architectural Landmarks in London - Research & Creative Technology Project

In this lesson, students learn more about famous structures and landmarks in London, England and the individuals who created them. Students choose the landmarks they will research and then choose the software they will use to showcase their research. Students can choose to create a presentation, a brochure, or a newspaper using Web 2.0 tools (free, no download needed) or by using Microsoft Office or Google Apps. For classrooms with limited technology, this lesson can be completed with students working in pairs or small groups. The completed presentations can be shared with the rest of the class if the teacher chooses. This is a great activity for a social studies or history class, or for a technology class. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary grades or high school as well. Hot and Cold parts of the world: Continents and Oceans- KS1 Geography Pack

Great pack to teach KS1 -particularly Yr1 about the hot/ cold places and their location in the world. Sheets to accompany PPT to show Equator position and how temp gets colder the further you move away from it- to the Poles. Worksheets clearly sectioned and colour banded for them to use pencils to shade according to temp- (Art hot/cold colour link). Pictures of Places from all over the world to print and allow children to find and stick onto IWB to demonstrate deserts (Sahara) near Equator and tundras at the Poles. Green Woodland found in the middle of these extremes (UK etc). Extra activities linked to naming continents and the oceans. Also- activity to stick animals to parts of the world where they can be found- linked to hot/cold and adaptations (listed in the ppt). Compare/Contrast locations also PPT and worksheets linked- British and Inuit lifestyles compared- lots of images to discuss and facts to list. Comparison also pre-done for teachers! When we think of mountains England isn’t going to be traditionally one of the places we think of, however it is home to over 200 which reach over 2,000 feet, most of them, including the ten highest, are located in the north western corner of the country within the Lake Distract National Park. National Parks and their mountains are under increasing pressure to attract visitors to them however these visitors bring both negative and positive impacts to the countryside and residents. These worksheets explore these impacts and how the negative impacts can be reduced.
