Help students identify there own skills and qualities in this fun Jenga game.

Help students identify there own skills and qualities in this fun Jenga game.

This activity is for all ages and abilities and allows learners to not only enhance their word vocabulary but also there ability to explain their own skills and abilities and transferrable skills in a fun and engaging way. The work sheet is made up of 40 squares each with a different skill/quality inside. The worksheet can be differentiated by adding other resources such as a dictionary. The resource also generate communication as students can help each other. The activity requires the tutor to number the bricks on a Jenga game from 1 -40 as the learner pulls out a brick a number is revealed which corresponds to the worksheet, the student then identifies the word from the worksheet and then highlights it. The learner then has to explain when they have used that skill with an example e.g. punctual, the learner may say 'I am always on time to school/college as this is important when getting a job in the future' or if the learner is not good at this they can suggest ways to improve. When the game has finished the students should have many words highlighted they then use the next page to write a few sentences about the skills/qualities which are relevant to them. Once completed this can also be used towards creating a personal statement for a C.V.

Present and Past Tense Irregular Verb game with Answer Key

Present and Past Tense Irregular Verb game with Answer Key

The objective of the game is for players to become familiar with past and present tense irregular verbs. The winner of the game will have matched up the most present and past tense verbs. It is a mixture of knowledge, luck and good memory skills. This resource contains two files. A word document (so that it can be edited if necessary) and a pdf document. Answer key is included. 1. Print out the pages with the irregular verbs on them. (laminate to preserve if you want) 2. Keep piles separated (past tense verbs are underlined). 3. Have learners work in pairs or groups 4. Place the present tense verbs face down spread out in one area and the past tense verbs in another area. (Keeping them in rows and columns is best). 5. Player 1 turns over one card from the present tense and then tries to find the matching verb from the past tense area. 6. If a match is not made, they turn the cards back over and the next person has their turn. 7. When a match is made the learner keeps the two cards. 8. The winner is the player with the most cards at the end of the game. 9. Optional – learners to then make up sentences with the verbs for extra points.

Information Gap 1 - Looking for a Job

Information Gap 1 - Looking for a Job

Information Gap 1 - Looking for a Job Get the students working in pairs. Give one person of each pair the Student A page and the other the Student B page. There are four different jobs being advertised in the local paper. However, there are ten gaps on each page. Students should ask each other questions to find out the information that is missing from their page, then write it down, asking for spellings as necessary. Encourage them to communicate verbally to get the answers, rather than letting each other look at their pages! When all the students have finished, bring the group back together and ask checking questions to elicit the answers, as well as to find out how much the students have understood about the other material in the adverts.

ESL EAL, workplace and job , Unit2/Lesson4, (Lesson + Exercices) No Prep

ESL EAL, workplace and job , Unit2/Lesson4, (Lesson + Exercices) No Prep

When we engage in a conversation with people for the first time one of the first questions are: What do you do? Where do you work? So teaching about jobs and workplaces has to come early in our teaching. How about having the context, the vocabulary and the grammar in just one place with explanations, exercises and feedback? This flexible resource will help you teach young adults and adults about workplaces and the use of nouns (singular/plural) with articles –the emphasis being on the structure: She/He is A…., She/He works IN… It also contains a recap about jobs and the daily routine. This resource is aimed at helping teachers to complement their textbook or to give enough material for those who are not lucky enough to have access to ESL textbooks/material. The resource contains a powerpoint with 29 slides with clear explanations at the bottom of each one of them to give you a step-by-step explanation about the progression of the lesson. The exercises are corrected to save you time! The resource also contains an activity booklet for students with 11 pages so that they keep a record of their learning. The approach is communicative to allow students to develop their speaking skills but it also contains grammar points reinforced by exercises to consolidate their grammatical skills and writing skills. You will find different types of activities to allow a greater differentiation in your class: - A recap about jobs and daily routine with a reading with definitions, a writing activity and a song. - matching up (about jobs and workplaces) - Filling gaps - Speaking activities in pairs - Another song to develop students’ listening skills about jobs and the present tense - A grammar point followed by exercises and correction (singular/plural nouns, a/an, irregular plural forms) - Writing - Survey - Review of objectives I suggest you use this resource after the ESL Unit 2 lesson 3 to help students structure their knowledge but you can easily use this resource on its own! Have fun! Any Question ? Mail me at carolinemusserotte@teacherlocker.com Check previous lessons below : Unit 2 Lesson 1 Family and personality description Unit 2 Lesson 2 physical description and verb to have Unit 2 Lesson 3 Job and daily routine

Teaching with Technology

Teaching with Technology

In the classroom, technology can encompass all sorts of tools from low-tech pencil, newspaper publisher, and chalkboard, to the utilization of presentation software, or high-tech tablets, online collaboration, and conferencing tools, and more. The new technologies allow us to try things in physical and virtual classrooms that were not possible before. What you use depends fundamentally on what you are attempting to reach. The best teaching approaches for my learners are speaking as well as listening strategies. Apparently we run-through presentations, discussions, conversations, dialogues, teamwork and case studies. I would like to point out that I just use actual, real texts, from the books, newspapers, the song’s lyrics, movies. We often take advantage of different kinds of listening comprehension such as listening to the news, interview presentations, et cetera. In my view, the most imperative teaching method is encouraging students and motivating them to be active learners.

diploma thesis" LESSON PLANNING"

diploma thesis" LESSON PLANNING"

DIPLOMA THESIS ON LESSON PLANNING In this world everything is developed through teaching, everyone tries to teach someone or something every second, minute. The parents teach their own children how to face the daily situations and how to behave in the society; teachers give knowledge to students to be grown up as intellectual and cultural ones. Even animals teach their own children how to be protected from enemies or where and when to find their own food. Teaching is always seen as a natural process, developed and changing in every day and situations. English is a universal language (global language in case we are not the only creature who can speak). The world has changed. We can no longer live alone in our country anymore. If you want to learn the world you need to learn English....With English, we can open ourselves to the world and the only way we can connect to the world is to the universal language.
