This is a presentation about the Francophone teams and their star players. It includes the languages they speak and their nationalities. It includes a video which details footballers who speak several languages and two activities involving recognising colours in French at the end. It was aimed at KS2 French, but could be used with less able KS3 groups.

French speaking players at the World Cup

French speaking players at the World Cup

Every major tournament, I print out and laminate pictures of the most well-known French speaking footballers. I put these up around school and the children love trying to work out the meanings of the words. I’ve also added some slides at the end that you could use in class to discuss vocabulary and for the children to write their own profile. Please let me know if there are any errors. I learnt today that you say “Je viens de France” rather than “Je viens de la France,” which is what I’ve always used in the past. Enjoy and Allez les bleus!!!

FRENCH CONVERSATION CARDS 1&2

FRENCH CONVERSATION CARDS 1&2

My students have always enjoyed and really benefited from these FRENCH conversation cards. They’re perfect for developing speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference booklets focusing on beginning/general conversation and cultural knowledge. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give your students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. These sets focus on beginning conversation, with a flavor of cultural and geographical knowledge. The prompt cards also feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in the beginning and more intermediate stages of their FRENCH learning, including a range of tenses. The REFERENCE BOOKLETS include all the questions and answers written out in FRENCH. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources. Students use the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning. The QUESTION AND ANSWER WRITING CARD TEMPLATES give students the opportunity to apply their FRENCH very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too. You can also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with. The resource consists of four non-editable files in a zipped format: SET 1 PROMPT CARDS with writing template and REFERENCE BOOKLET SET 2 PROMPT CARDS with writing template and REFERENCE BOOKLET The sets are also available individually if you prefer, each priced at $4.00. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully: this resource is copyright, and for single-teacher / classroom / purchaser use only. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BONNE CONVERSATION !

Market experience- Au Marche

Market experience- Au Marche

This lesson/activity can be approached from various angles. I used it as an introduction to phrasing questions as we had learnt the basic- ‘Puis-je avoir….?’ with classroom equipment. (The latter question was taught using sign language and is very effective with lower ability pupils). Pupils loved asking for food items. You can add a ‘bureau d’echange’ and pretend to swap for euros. This can lead onto a food topic or travelling topic. The activity of a market will need to be set up prior to the lesson and class rules be established. Create incentives which will reward pupils. One year, it was decoding a clue as they visited each shop. Everyone knows their own cohort. I have included some publisher documents which can be amended to create market stall signs. This can be also linked with D & T department. Pupils were looking at healthy eating and mediterranean produces. They decided to make a salad nicoise. I created a basic cook sheet with the D & T teacher and we arranged the stalls to have the correct items to make this salad. So not to waste tuna we provided bags of tuna!

La Météo - French taboo speaking game - Weather

La Météo - French taboo speaking game - Weather Playing French TABOO is a great way to get students to speak French and learn a lot of new vocabulary. This game is simple to modify and use with beginners and advanced students alike. In this MÉTÉO themed version of the game there are 30 French-English cards. There are 2 fun ways to play this fun vocabulary game and both are explained in the instructions. This French Taboo game includes the following: How to play classic Taboo (beginner and advanced levels) 30 Taboo game cards to print, laminate, cut out and hook together with a ring (color and grayscale copies provided) How to play 15 MINUTES MAX - an alternative version of the game 15 MINUTES MAX game board Sheet to record new words in French and English (nouveaux mots) *In the upper left corner there’s a spot for you to punch holes in the cards so that you can then attach them with a ring for no prep use every time. Object of the game: One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can’t use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the word at the top of the card. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Beginner students should be allowed to use the TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues. FRENCH ANIMALS I HAVE WHO HAS?

FRENCH ANIMALS I HAVE WHO HAS?

TWO GAMES, TWO CHALLENGES -PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING LANGUAGE SKILLS AS WELL AS PRACTICING ANIMALS IN FRENCH! Create an instant introduction to the animal kingdom in FRENCH with these whole-group communicative games. There’s a multi-skill focus on speaking, listening, reading, vocabulary-building and developing accurate pronunciation in FRENCH. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers helps to embed vocabulary in the memory - the games really do help to create a lively language learning environment, and are a great alternative to more traditional ‘drilling’ activities. There are two games, and two challenges: CHILLOUT CHALLENGE with the words written out in full in alphabetical order CHAMPION CHALLENGE with the words in topsy-turvy order, and with only the first letter given, which is great for a memory work-out, and really encourages children to focus on the individual words, as well as the gender of each word. Featured in this set are: bear bee bird bull cat cow dinosaur dog donkey elephant fish fox frog hedgehog horse giraffe goose kangaroo lion mouse owl panda bear polar bear rabbit rat sheep snake spider whale zebra It doesn’t matter if some of the words don’t feature in your immediate or longer-term learning plan: the aim of the game is to encourage children to engage happily and confidently with both the written and spoken word in FRENCH. The game works well during your work with the animal kingdom in FRENCH, and as an all-year-round starter and refresher game - along the way, children may even get to know some new animals! The resource consists of a single, non-editable file; please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - the resource is copyright, and for single-classroom use only. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON DIVERTISSEMENT !

I may allocate numbers to my students: You answer 1-5, your partner answers 6-10 etc… The dice will be the best option to make the lesson entertaining! My games (4 different ones) cover two sections: Me, my family and friends and Technology. All the answers are in the book! I hope you will love this resource! Pays, Villes, Continents - French 20 questions geographical locations games

Pays, Villes, Continents - French 20 questions geographical locations games

Pays, Villes, Continents - French 20 questions geographical locations games The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 3 versions of the game, students will practice asking questions about 156 different geographical locations including cities, countries and continents all written in French. Included: 3 versions with 52 geographical locations each Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity. Each version includes 52 geographical locations. Many of the places will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice asking questions about cities, countries and continents, but also to build and reinforce geography skills. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the places written on the chart. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. EST-CE QUE……. … tu es une ville? … tu es un pays? … tu es un continent? … tu es en Afrique? … tu es un pays chaud? … tu es un pays froid? … tu es une île? … etc… The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT Alternative game play: To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it. FRANCE FACTS 2

FRANCE FACTS 2

IDEAL FOR YOUNG AND BEGINNING LEARNERS OF FRENCH - PERFECT FOR INTRODUCING AND EXPLORING FRANCE - 20 FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT ALL THINGS FRENCH - WITH PRESENTATION / DISCUSSION ACTIVITY & DIFFERENTIATED QUESTION CARDS AND WRITING ACTIVITIES FRANCE FACTS ACTIVITIES really do help to create a lively language learning environment, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led ’information about France’ lessons. Students can develop their knowledge of THE FRANCOPHONE WORLD - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. The resource comprises the following 6 files: 20 FACTS CARDS - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups: language, country, arts & culture, famous people and history. There are 4 cards per A4 sheet. The language on each of the cards ranges from fairly basic to more advanced, which challenges and enhances students’ English skills. RECORDING SHEET CHALLENGE ONE - there are 2 options: either2 or 4 fact recording boxes per A4 page. Students read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes. Encourage students to be as accurate as possible with their spelling and punctuation, to pay particular attention to the spelling and accents of the FRENCH words that are included, and of course to make sure they are recording the facts in their best handwriting. RECORDING SHEET CHALLENGE TWO - there are also 2 options: 2 or 4 fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires students to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned. Encourage students to look for lateral information, such as the existence of other countries where FRENCH is spoken, and to think about the continent where those countries are located. 24 QUESTION CARDS AND ANSWER RECORDING SHEET — the questions have a differentiated range of challenge. The answer recording sheet prompts students to write their answer. SETS 1 & 2 are available together at the special price of £4.00: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/france-facts-1-and-2-11700399 This pack comprises 6 non-editable files in a zipped format.
