Suite en re by Robert de Visee arranged for solo ukulele

Suite en re by Robert de Visee arranged for solo ukulele

Complete suite arranged beautifully for ukulele by court musician of Louis XIV and XV. Some of the movements, such as prelude and minuet 1 are suitable for relative beginners, none of the pieces are harder than grade three. The renaissance lute and early guitar music transposed well to ukulele and the overall sound is surprisingly authentic. A little gem of a suite.

Awesome Rhythm: Everything is Awesome Scheme of Work and Resources

Awesome Rhythm: Everything is Awesome Scheme of Work and Resources

Are you sick of tee-ta-tea-tea-ing your way around rhythm? Do KS3 students STILL NOT UNDERSTAND rhythm symbols? Need to bridge the gap between practical and music technology? This scheme of work is for you. I’ve designed a scheme of work for a KS3 class who have been introduced to the names of rhythm symbols and the idea that they have duration, but need some revision and a modern approach to learning it. This scheme of work lasts a half term (five lessons minimum) and covers revision of rhythm symbols (Semibreve, Minim, Crotchet, Quaver, Rests, Ties and Dots) in a fun way relating to lego. It also covers an introduction into music technology (I have used Garageband but this can be easily tranferred to Cubase or Sibelius etc), texture, and the idea of melody, counter melody and harmony. It can be a fun independent learning project or used for ensemble performances too. The scheme of work ends with a simple assessment with a grid for teachers to comment on expected progress and a feedback form. There is mastery style tick sheet also. There are three extension tasks attached to lessons 2, 3 and 4. Note: I have actually done lesson one with physical lego bricks and it has gone down a treat! No more issues there! I have embedded audio files into the powerpoint but we all know how that can go so I’ve attached that here for reentering too. There is also a copy of every Garageband file for displaying on the board or editing how you like.

Ten Simple Classical Guitar Pieces Arranged for ukulele

Ten Simple Classical Guitar Pieces Arranged for ukulele

I have put together a collection of popular classical guitar tunes arranged for the ukulele. These are all relatively easy, and in fact the first three tunes are suitable for absolute beginners. These tunes will be familiar to guitar teachers and particularly useful to those who teach ukulele to children as an introduction to learning classical guitar. Again for low G, although the first piece is only on top three strings so suitable for soprano ukulele.

Time Signatures (upper school) 2/4 3/4 4/4 5/4 6/4 7/4 6/8 7/8

Time Signatures (upper school) 2/4 3/4 4/4 5/4 6/4 7/4 6/8 7/8

This is for training students to identify time signatures when listening to music. It’s basic in that it is just drums and guitar, students listen to the audio files, follow along on the handout, and ultimately are tested on their ability to identify which time signature they can hear. Sheet includes: Standard notation 4 bar examples of each time signature written out with drums and guitar. Guitar changes chord every bar to make it easy to identify when listening. Audio files for each time signature / notation as written. It is split into two sections, over quarter notes and over 8th notes. 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and 6/8 (3/4), 7/8, 8/8 (4/4) Page 2 (double sided) has empty boxes for quizzing students on which time signature they can hear. My lesson goes as follows: Explainer - over quarter notes. Play first time signature to students, count out loud along with it, students read along on handout. Repeat for next time signature or two. Students then count in pairs as you play the rest. Exlpainer - over eighth notes - notice the “speed” difference - more notes. Play and count the first one out loud (counting faster for 8th notes) Have students count them out loud. Quiz students by playing random ones and they write the time signature. Exchange sheets and peer-mark (I have students raise their hand if the one they’re marking got it wrong - so we can revisit any that were a huge flop)

A fun colourful teaching and revision of notation. Also intro to orchestra.

Lower school. Follow Rosie and Hoops as they help Professor Blithe work out the clues to the next mystery!! Resource introduces students to rhythm sums, notation spellings, composers, instruments of the orchestra, sharps and flats, and notes on the keyboard. Not going to lie - could mark this during the lesson that got the powers that be off my back, looked impressive when there were 350 of these all marked with feedback. Students enjoyed it and the lower ability GCSE enjoyed doing it “felt like doing a puzzle in a magazine”. It has massively helped with writing of sharps and flats and understanding of naturals.
