Technology : Consumer Profile Cards (activity)

Being a Designer means stepping out of your comfort zone and forgetting about your own preferences & needs. However, I have noticed that this is sometimes lost in classroom practice. Students are given a design brief or problem to solve, yet the final outcome is bias and based upon what THEY like and want. Students design something for themselves that they can take home and use - This resource prevents this from happening! 12 different consumer cards that are purposely written in a paragraphs, so that students can dissect the information, like a reading comprehension, pulling out the important facts that they need to know. This will show a detailed understanding. The cards include a range of people that have a variety of likes, needs and wants. This encourages students to choose a suitable consumer that is relevant to the problem that they have been asked to solve. (For example, if the problem is to design a product to help the elderly, then the Baby consumer profile card would not be suitable - Students should be expected to work this out after class discussion). Print on A4 or A3 paper and laminate!

Uses PIXL steps for levels, pupils move around the room looking at each others work then complete the front page AFTER thay have read all the comments from their Peers. Same idea - but the process is modified slightly for different abilities of groups.

Metals and Alloys (NEW AQA GCSE 2017)

I am developing a full range of theory lessons to support the new AQA design technology GCSE starting in 2017. There are 30 lessons that are taught 1 a week throughout Y10. Each lesson has learning objectives, starter/bell task, content (GIF’s used to support learning), plenary and summary slides in PowerPoint. I have also included a fully supported student handout which includes homework questions and summative assessment section. To support the theory lessons I have uploaded, please download my pupil tracker sheet. As well as theory lessons I have uploaded project/skills learning journeys that can be easily customised to the projects you are delivering.
