AQA GCSE English -Paper 2 Question 3, THE UK PET TRADE IN MONKEYS

AQA GCSE English -Paper 2 Question 3, THE UK PET TRADE IN MONKEYS

This is a full, complete lesson with enough interesting and engaging material for a 3 hour session. It comes with a power point full of group /paired / individual tasks and starter and self / peers assessment activities. Also included are 2 worksheets and 3 short video clips. This lesson is designed for those classes which are "slow burners" with the aim of slowly introducing a topic and building towards the exam practice. Although Q3 from Paper 2 is based on a period piece of text, this lesson uses a modern text to help develop the skills in learning, identifying and analysing language features, as in my experience...an older text tends to throw students. This lesson hopefully will build their confidence in tackling this question, despite the era the text is from. The theme of this lesson is based around the UK pet trade in small monkeys and is designed to help raise cultural awareness and British values in animal welfare within young people by helping them to be aware of the background in these kinds of trades. Due to this, this lesson can be expanded upon if needs be to include a group debate or discussion to hit the criteria of the speaking and listening element of the spec. I have noticed that at times, the preview distorts the power point slides or the images on the worksheets, please keep in mind that this is a site issue and not a resource issue. Hope it helps.

Oxford AQA Writing:Non-fiction writing

Oxford AQA Writing:Non-fiction writing

These ppt's can be used in conjunction with 2 videos from Youtube; I didn't include them here as one was from Arizona State University, and I was concerned about copyright issues. Essentially they cover the Oxford AQA First Language Writing course and the 3 different essays the student has to produce for their exam. The ppt's identify the different components od an academic, descriptive or narrative essay. These ppt's break down each essay and help the students to identfy what areas they would need to cover to produce a good piece of writing. I used the 2 videos towards the end of the series; after ppt 6 I had a 90 second video identifying the differences between fiction and non-fiction writing. I would stop at different sections of the video and discuss/question the students about the statement and how it related to their writing. After ppt 7I used the video from ASU that discussed the structure and organisation of a piece of non-fiction writing. When you use the videos this can be a very useful lesson for the students, and it can give them excellent direction and advice when they are beginning to produce the longer essays that Oxford AQA requires.
