Electricity unit of work with sheets yr4

Electricity unit of work with sheets yr4

I made this smart board and corresponding booklet unit of work for my year 4 class last year. I used it again this year and made some adjustments to it as needed. Electricity is such a fun topic for children and this booklet and smart allows them to combine their knowledge of electrical circuits with design elements. There are work sheets included for a whole term as well as a brief smart too. We used it to build their knowledge gradually of circuits, and then how to properly draw a circuit and add buzzers, motors and lights. It all culminated in a final design project where they needed to follow a specification of a house that needed a doorbell, light bulb and a switch! They absolutely loved this and it is also a National Curriculum requirement for this year group.

The Water Cycle: Worksheets and Cut and Paste Activities and Jigsaw Puzzles (Colour/b&w)

The Water Cycle: Worksheets and Cut and Paste Activities and Jigsaw Puzzles (Colour/b&w)

This resource comprises 5 worksheets on the water cycle and a missing jigsaw activity. The worksheets are also on PowerPoint and PDF format. These are additional worksheets you can give out during the lesson, use as assessment on the water cycle or as homework.  Two worksheets require students to write about the water cycle in their own words.  Three worksheets entail cut and paste activities. The simpler activities are cutting out the word strips and glue them onto the correct blank space to show the water cycle process.  The other cut and paste activity requires students to write the title in their workbooks or on a separate sheet of paper. Then they write about each word, cut out the strip and glue it into their workbooks. Some students may only be able to complete 4 strips. Let them choose a word to write about. Once the students have written something about each word, they can draw a picture for each strip.  There is a jigsaw puzzle to complete. It has 4 pieces missing with which students complete the puzzle picture of the water cycle. When this is completed, student cut out and stick the labels into the correct spaces on the completed puzzle. A finished puzzle is included to how the puzzle should look. NB: The picture was drawn on the computer and coloured in by hand.  Missing Jigsaw Puzzle pieces (b/w) – Print off the page with just one puzzle piece in place. Students complete the whole puzzle by cutting out the rest of the puzzles (8 pieces) and sticking them in place to complete the water cycle picture. Then as above, cut out the words and glue beneath the correct picture, e.g. precipitation would go beneath the rain cloud. Students can then colour in. Hope you enjoy using these resources.

'Giving to help others' Assembly

'Giving to help others' Assembly

‘Giving to help others’ (http://givingtohelpothers.org) primary school assembly pack is an age appropriate presentation developed by teachers for teachers and it is linked to the KS1 and KS2 PSHE curriculum. Founded by charity Team Margot Foundation in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant, ‘Giving to help others’ introduces primary school children to the concept of giving blood, platelets, bone marrow, stem cells and ultimately organs so that this type of conversation becomes the ‘norm’ rather than the exception. Although the children are too young to donate, the hope is that they go home and tell their adult loved ones at home and within their communities that they are able to help others now. The assembly pack is free and easily downloadable from the website givingtohelpothers.org. No pre-work is required because the PowerPoint presentation includes teacher notes to compliment the short animated video alongside a series of questions to help the children’s understanding. There is also text available that can be sent to parents / carers either before the assembly or afterwards in a newsletter. If preferred, the ‘Giving to help others’ assembly pack can also be given within the classroom. The delivery of ‘Giving to help others’ takes approximate 20 minutes. Please note that a new module on Blood is currently being developed for Year 6 and it will fit in with the STEM Statutory National Curriculum, as well as touching on the PSHE KS2 Association Programme of Study. It will also have strong links to the English Curriculum as well as Science and PSHE. New modules will be added annually to the ‘Giving to help others’ education programme.
