Duracell's The Big Battery Hunt KS1 & KS2 Maths and Science Challenge

Teach pupils about recycling with Duracell's fun curriculum linked maths and science challenge -The Big Battery Hunt. The challenge uses curriculum linked KS1 and KS2 maths tasks and homework activities to help students collect, measure and weigh the batteries they collect. This challenge also has a supporting competition suitable for the whole school to take part in with some amazing prizes including a paid for 2-day educational experience at a Sustainability Centre, a MyMaths subscription for winners and iPads for students. In the past, I have used the lessons with the class as a way to reinforce the concept of a fair test, as well as different types of variables. The pack has been broken up into objectives for Years 3 & 4 followed up on Years 5 & 6. Using the MakeyMakey gives the children the opportunity to go deeper into concepts, combining them with engineering, design and core science. Children can also create products with the littleBits to present their findings from enquiries and conclusions as a way to show their understanding. A link is also provided should you want to access the file for editing and sharing on Google Classroom or Seesaw.
