Bug Hotel Power point and Letter Home

Bug Hotel Power point and Letter Home

Such a fun lesson! As art of teaching microhabitats my class and I created one large bug hotel in our garden area, it could also be done in any forest area nearby, but the closer the better as you can visit and investigate the bugs and which environment they’re most drawn too. Included is a brief powerpoint encouraging the children with ideas of what it may look like and natural environments for different types of insects. I would send the parental letter out a week or two before so they can help out with the items needed. Enjoy!

Butterfly Picture-Poem Frame, EYFS/Y1 + Guidance Notes

Butterfly Picture-Poem Frame, EYFS/Y1 + Guidance Notes

This resource comprises a picture-poem frame sheet and a one-page guide for teachers. The hand-drawn butterfly picture-poem is a Literature resource for young children. Its opening phrase invites describing words for butterflies, which can be written on the short, clear lines around the picture. There is also a simile to complete: 'They are as colourful as - ’ , and space for further ideas. There is plenty of scope for colouring too. The guidance notes (or Guide) offers word and simile suggestions to prompt for, and thoughts about the colouring aspect, as well as ideas for preparing children for the activity as a whole. The resource supports several aspects of the EYFS curriculum - Literacy, Expressive Arts & Design and Understanding the World, also providing opportunities for reading, spelling, fine motor skills and more.

2 x National Parks Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Geography

2 x National Parks Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Geography

2 x Wordsearch Puzzle sheet of keywords on the theme of ‘UK National Parks: Dartmoor & The Lake District’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!
