There are three presentations with activities with cover the impact of Thatcherism on society for the AQA A level Modern Britain syllabus. The presentations cover the sale of council houses, the miners strike and parliamentary opposition. There are hyperlink video clip which also include the demonstrations at Greenham Common. There are also student notes to accompany the presentations. A couple of the activities require use of the Oxford AQA A level textbook by Sally Waller, however the activity could be changed by use of own source.

This lesson explores the reasons why Thatcher won the elections of 1983 and 1987. It looks at the reasons why the Conservatives were popular but also other factors which contributed to their success such as the ‘Falklands factor’ and the unpopularity of Labour. There are two lessons which cover Thatcher's foreign policy towards Europe and the USA. The first lesson deals with the Special Relationship and students will investigate the role of Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, Gorbachev and Pope John Paul II in bringing and end to the Cold War. There is a hyperlink to the drama, Threads, in order for students to debate the attitude of people living in the west towards nuclear war at that time. There is a set of notes to accompany the lesson. The second lesson looks at Thatcher's attitude to Europe and begins with two hyperlinks showing different attitudes to Europe including Thatcher's famous 'no, no, no' speech. Students will need access to the AQA Sally Waller textbook and there is a set of notes to accompany the lesson.

There are two lessons which deal with social issues in the 1970s. The first lesson on race and immigration begins with the influx of the Ugandan Asians (hyperlink included) and the subequent Race Relations Act. The lesson then explores the impact of the growth of the National Front (hyperlink included) and the response from the government. There are further hyperlinks included which focus on whether Britain was becomming a more tolerant society such as Blair Peach. A set of notes is also included. The second lesson is on the role of women in the 1970s and impact of the legislation passed. Two hyperlinks are included which show different interpretations of the protest at the Miss World finals. The first lesson looks at the government of Harold Wilson from 1974-76 and includes two hyperlinks which focus on the problems faced by Wilson and his resignation speech in 1976. This lesson explores the role of Eisenhower and Kennedy in Vietnam. It looks at the difference in strategies by the two presidents and several activities for students are included - they are asked to sort statements and to reach a verdict as to who was the most successful president in Vietnam. A hyperlinked video clip is also included together with a timeline homework activity. Students are asked to plot the increasing level of US involvement during the presidencies of Eisenhower and Kennedy. The lesson is based on the AQA syllabus but can be adapted for other schemes.

This is a complete lesson for AQA Modern Britain, 1951-2007, which covers the liberal reforms of the 1960s. A powerpoint is included which includes a starter of Roy Jenkins’ speech from 1959. There is a handout to introduce students to the reforms together with an A3 sheet for students to complete. Students will need the AQA Sally Waller textbook to complete this or any other A level textbook of the period. Four short clips connected to the four areas of reform are also included to assist students with the completion of the table. Students are then asked to make a judgement on who was responsible for the introduction of the reforms.
