PSHE: Reach the Star game to learn about EMOTIONS

PSHE: Reach the Star game to learn about EMOTIONS

The object of this game is to learn some of the synonyms of the word ‘sad’. Children play in pairs or you play with a child. They pick a card and decide whether it is a ‘sad’ word or some other emotion. If it is a sad word they can move one space up towards the star. If it is another emotion they stay where they are. Who can be the first to reach the star?

PSHE lesson plan- words can hurt

PSHE lesson plan- words can hurt

This is a tried and tested lesson plan for KS2 (but can also work for KS1) about how unkind words can have a lasting effect. At first reading it seems a little cheesy but I’ve used it with some pretty streetwise Y6 pupils and they loved it! The focus is on empathy and understanding the lasting damage a throwaway phrase or action ccan have on people. Hope you and your pupils enjoy the lesson and if they do why not let others know by leaving a review? If you need any further support with PSHE planning and teaching you might like my new book Making PSHE Matter- available from Jessica Kingsley Publishing and Amazon. http://www.jkp.com/uk/making-pshe-matter-2.html

It was written to support the Changes theme from the SEAL Materials but is suitable to fit with other general assembly themes about changes, feelings of being lost and the need to keep safe. It explores how experiences such as “getting lost” make us and those around us change, and how it helps us to see things from other people’s perspectives. In this story the Hummingbird becomes distracted and becomes separated from his parents. It explores the feelings associated with feeling “lost”. The Hummingbird at the end of the story has become a little wiser IMPORTANT The license for using this assembly in your own class is £3, but if you wish to use this resource for a whole school assembly you will need to purchase the school license. Student Self-Evaluation and Feedback Slips

Student Self-Evaluation and Feedback Slips

This resource enables students to reflect on what they have covered and express what or how they are thinking about the new information. Exit Slips easily incorporate writing into the content area classroom and require students to think critically. Exit slips easily incorporate writing into many different content areas. Furthermore, the Exit Slip strategy is an informal assessment that will allow educators to adapt and differentiate their planning and instruction. These Exit Slips can either be put into student portfolios and/or stuck into class notebooks alongside the lesson. These Exit Slips ask students for feedback on their lesson, what they have learned, if extra support is needed etc. Exit slips can be used for all subjects.
