WJEC/ Eduqas 2016 SPEC- Theme 3- Lesson 7- Managing Tectonic Hazards and Assessed Homework

WJEC/ Eduqas 2016 SPEC- Theme 3- Lesson 7- Managing Tectonic Hazards and Assessed Homework

This is the 7th lesson in the 3rd theme of the new WJEC/Eduqas 2016 specification for geography. This lesson looks at different strategies that can be used to predict volcanic eruptions, what hazard mapping is and the 3P’s. There is an assessed homework that pupils should complete as homework and this is usually given out and handed in before the revision session, so during the revision session I would go through the assessed homework and anything else that pupils didn’t understand. The assessed homework would count towards their overall grade for that theme. A detailed markscheme and grade boundaries are included. Any feedback on this lesson would be a great help as they will help to improve future lessons that I upload. JPMathsandGeography

EdExcel Introduction to hazards (data, multiple choice and celebrity hazards!)

EdExcel Introduction to hazards (data, multiple choice and celebrity hazards!)

This lesson is an introduction to the hazardous earth module to classify, define and describe patterns of hazards over time. Students have to identify the clues given by the celebrities that initially identify the hazard followed by the type and if possible the event. There is also a starter activity that identifies the different hazard types and extends understanding so students are aware of the difference between hazard and a disaster. Students have the opportunity to complete a variety of tasks on the task sheet that is structured in the same style as the GCSE examination paper with the multiple choice and then a data task. There is also an extended activity to demonstrate challenge and embed learning.

KS3/4 Plate Tectonics PBL

KS3/4 Plate Tectonics PBL

A fantastic ‘Project Based Learning’ task for KS3/4 students who are studying Plate Tectonics. I developed this to see if independent research and tasks would work. we had amazing results! I used this as a single piece of homework for the entire half term and the results were incredible. there we Volcano cakes, huge detailed models, case studies, moving earthquake models, they were all extremely detailed. the task has several parts, students must complete: a model (edible or not) a detailed newspaper article about the causes, impacts and responses of their chosen hazard a leaflet about protection from their chosen hazard a detailed map with explanation of their chosen case study good luck!

WJEC 2016 SPECIFICATION MOCK EXAM PAPER for PAPER 1 (FULL PAPER THEME 1-3 and MARKSCHEME)

WJEC 2016 SPECIFICATION MOCK EXAM PAPER for PAPER 1 (FULL PAPER THEME 1-3 and MARKSCHEME)

It’s that time of the year again when we prepare our students with mock exams to see how well they know their stuff. In this mock exam pack, I have created a very detailed mark scheme that looks very similar to the real mark schemes that are used by WJEC examiners. In addition to this I have also added grade boundaries to help consistency with the department awarding process, but also I have looked at previous exam grade boundaries and given the best estimate to what they could be like in the summer. The mock paper includes only the first three themes and includes a range of different questions that help to show pupils the different ways that they could ask a question in the exam. Theme 1 uses the additional questions that have been uploaded to the WJEC websites, Theme 2 and 3 uses a range of past paper questions and exam style questions from the revision guide. The paper is set out like what the real exam paper would be set out like, giving students the opportunity to get a feel of what the real paper would be like. NB, I have decided to print my exam paper in booklet form on A3 paper as I feel like this would give pupils more of a feel for the exam, but you don’t have to do that Any feedback would be great!
