Area Puzzles

Area Puzzles

5 fun Area and Perimeter Hidden Word / Spot the Mistakes Puzzles (and solutions) for Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 5 and Year 6 and equivalents, which will also suit some early KS3. There's a puzzle for each of the following: Area of Squares and Rectangles, Perimeter of Squares and Rectangles, Area of Right-Angled Triangles and two further puzzles on Compound / Composite Shapes (2 star - more challenging plus a 1 star – less challenging). This resource is also available as part of an Area and Perimeter Activities BUNDLE, alongside Bingo / Lotto Games and Four in a Row Games: An engaging alternative to worksheets, these minimal preparation, ready-to-print puzzles make ideal starter, early finisher or homework activities. Designed in colour, they print fine in black and white too. To save on printing they could be laminated for completion with a whiteboard pen and kept for future years. Alternatively, put them in dry-erase plastic sleeves, meaning other pupils could use them later. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a measure-related word is revealed after completing area or perimeter calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a shape and a letter. Pupils circle any letters above incorrectly calculated areas or perimeters. Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal the hidden word. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. Pupils often forget or avoid checking their work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves. I have a growing collection of Maths and Literacy Hidden Word Puzzles, including this high-selling bundle, which includes more than 20 puzzles for Rounding, Multiplication, Negative Numbers and Fractions: Maths Puzzles These seasonal Mental Maths puzzles are also popular: Christmas Mental Maths Puzzles Halloween Maths Puzzles My Crossnumber Puzzle Packs are also popular, such as this one: Mental Maths Puzzles Year 5 / 6 Thank you for your interest in my resources. Speed Distance Time

Speed Distance Time

6 differentiated Four in a Row / Connect Four style game boards for consolidation of Speed, Distance and Time calculations, to suit Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) or early KS3 (originally designed for a Year 6 / Y6 class). This is a fun alternative activity to additional jotter / textbook work on this maths / numeracy topic, after pupils have been introduced to (or revised) the formulae D=SxT, S=D÷T and T=D÷S. ANSWER VERSIONS of all games are included. Contains a more simple (one star) and more challenging (two star) version for each of: Distance Travelled Average Speed Time Taken In addition to featuring generally more challenging calculations, the two-star versions of each require conversion between units in some cases. Print and laminate the boards for regular use. I recommend printing boards in A3 if possible (or enlarging them to A3 on the copier) but A4 will be okay too. Pupils work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. They roll a die each time to find which column to pick a calculation from (the columns are numbered 1-6). If there are no calculations left in the column whose number they have rolled, they either skip a go or roll again (depending on the rules you have chosen). Pupils write their answers on the board with a whiteboard marker. They could either use a different coloured pen to record answers on the board or add an initial or symbol if using the same coloured pen as their opponent. I hope your students enjoy playing these games. What about this festive mental maths puzzle pack?
