Colour by surds etc (includes indices with fractional and negative powers)

Colour by surds etc (includes indices with fractional and negative powers)

As the title suggests, this is a colouring sheet for practising multiplying with surds, square roots, and calculating indices with fractional and negative powers. It also covers multiples and common multiples as students are asked to colour answers that are multiples of two in one colour, multiples of three in a second colour and common multiples in a third colour. Unlike other maths colouring sheets, each sheet only requires three different colours and therefore requires fewer teacher supplies. The solution is the pattern displayed. All feedback gratefully accepted.

Non Calculator Number revision cross numbers

Non Calculator Number revision cross numbers

Two cross numbers, some overlap questions but the second one is much harder than the first. Topics include: fractions of amounts, converting fractions to decimals, calculating with money, highest common factor, percentage reduction, dividing with decimals, least common multiples, ratios, roots, speed distance time, rounding, percentage increase, and the harder sheet also contains standard form, surds, compound interest and harder versions of some of the other topics.

Mr Surd - Problem solving with surds, find Mr Surd's area

Mr Surd - Problem solving with surds, find Mr Surd's area

Mr Surd is made from a number of different shapes and his dimensions are given in surd form. The task is to find his total area. This is a fantastic problem solving exercise that really engages the students with a topic that can often be a bit dull. Every class I have tried this with has loved it. It is particularly applicable to the new GCSE spec and its more problem solving approach on many questions.

Fun revision activities for GCSE Maths

Two sets of 12 cards for students to cut up, solve and then place cards in ascending/descending order of solutions. A multiple choice activity - where each answer gives a letter. The full set of letters can be rearranged to spell the name of a band, and finally a cross number all covering multiple topics Just a slightly different way to get students to look at revision. A range of grades to allow access for all from beginning.

Surd Pairs

Surd Pairs

Cut out the 40 cards in the pack. Make sure they are shuffled well. Spread them on a table, face down. Two or more players in turns take it to turn two cards over at a time. If they make an equivalent pair, they keep the cards and try again. If they don't, it is then the next player's turn. If the player thinks they have a pair, they must fully convince the other players by showing their workings in their book, unless the team does agree without convincing. Player with the most cards at the end wins.
