Full-Sized Coloring Anatomy Activity

Full-Sized Coloring Anatomy Activity

This all -year anatomy activity is for students of any age, but is mainly geared toward younger elementary students to learn the placement of the major organs and bones in their bodies. INSTRUCTIONS: To use this book, begin by tracing your child’s body on a large piece of paper in anatomical position, that is, with palms facing up. This becomes important in the correct placement of the lower arm bones. We found that newsprint is much too weak to last the entire school year, so opt for a thicker roll of craft paper which can be found at an office supply, school supply, or paper supply store. Then, cut it out and attach it to the wall. As you study each system, find the corresponding body parts, color (if desired), and have your child attach them with glue stick, double sticky tape, or rolled tape.

Iron Hearted Violet Novel Study + STEAM BUNDLE

Iron Hearted Violet Novel Study + STEAM BUNDLE

This resource is designed to be used during Reading Workshop and is to be used with Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill. It bundles Iron Hearted Violet Novel Study with STEAM packs about researching and creating an anatomical model of a heart and creating a dragon eye using art skills focusing on shade and tone. ABOUT THE NOVEL: Newbery Medal winner Kelly Barnhill spins a wondrously different kind of fairy-tale: In most fairy tales, princesses are beautiful, dragons are terrifying, and stories are harmless. But this isn’t most fairy tales… Princess Violet is plain, reckless, and quite possibly too clever for her own good. Particularly when it comes to telling stories. One day she and her best friend, Demetrius, stumble upon a hidden room and find a peculiar book. Aforbiddenbook. It tells a story of an evil being, called the Nybbas, imprisoned in their world. The story cannot be true–not really. But then the whispers start. Violet and Demetrius, along with an ancient, scarred dragon-the last dragon in existence, in fact-may hold the key to the Nybbas’s triumph or its demise. It all depends on how they tell the story. After all, stories make their own rules. Iron Hearted Violet is a story about the power of stories, our belief in them, and how one enchanted tale changed the course of an entire kingdom. ABOUT THE RESOURCE: This pack includes Chapter Summaries, Comprehension Questions, Digging Deeper Opportunities (includes character studies and plot studies), Creative Writing Tasks, Non-Fiction Tasks related to content of the novel (Storytellers, Dragon, Archery, Insect Strength, The Heart), and and STEAM enrichment activities where children investigate, design, make, and evaluate an anatomical heart and dragon eye according to Key Stage 2 Design Technology and Art and Design objectives. Resource is provided as a PDF but a digital copy of the pack is available for editing and sharing on Google Classroom and Seesaw available with download. The Great Big Food Cycle Event

The Great Big Food Cycle Event

The Great Big Food Cycle Event is for groups of 45-60 pupils from P6-S1 and uses practical activity to explain the different aspects of the food cycle, their environmental impacts and how we can make more sustainable food choices. 7 stations are set up using the activity resources which include full instruction and equipment lists; icons for each station and additional materials can be found in display and poster resources. There are a large number of additional resources required such as soil, seeds, empty packaging, wrappers, unavoidable waste items, worms, sand etc. and the event requires a some preparation. Red worms can be ordered from the internet or found in most long-standing, soil contact compost heaps. The large group of students is split into 7 groups of appropriate numbers and each student issued with a booklet (in display and poster resources) that should be filled in as they move around the stations. Each group should visit each station for 15-20 minutes before moving round the room, depending on time availability. The Smoothie Bike station can be adapted to use a regular blender, though if a smoothie bike is available to hire locally it is worth the experience. The Incredible Inedibles station can be adapted to use any of the waste products listed in the activity appendix in a practical manner. While the message of the event is best delivered as a whole, each activity is suitable to deliver individually with a small student group. Previous students have shown a high level of engagement and increased appreciation for the impacts associated with the food cycle. At the end of the event, ideal give-aways to issue to the students include; seed potatoes and potato grow bags, packets of seeds, pasta portioners etc. The Great Big Food Cycle Event was conceived by Belville Community Garden in Inverclyde Scotland, as part of their Climate Challenge Funded project ‘Connecting Food growing Across Inverclyde’, which aimed to tackle community carbon emissions arising from our food purchasing and wastage habits.
