Design Technology - Homework Challenge for Differentiation

Homework Challenge was developed to differentiate homework tasks for ALL students.This Homework Challenge resource not only makes homework more accessible for all types of students, but it also provides students with choice and engagement in how they would like to complete the task. Students are given a homework topic – this might be famous designers in DT, World War 1 in History or To Kill a Mockingbird in English. The student then decides how they would prefer to complete their homework. They research the topic (or already have some understanding of it from a previous lesson) and display their knowledge in one of the twenty different methods listed on the Homework Challenge sheet. The challenges are split into 3 different categories of easy, medium and hard (A,B,C). The challenges in the ‘Junior Designer’ category take less time to complete and are a little easier, whereas the ‘Creative Director’ challenges take much longer to complete and are slightly more difficult.Students complete their chosen challenge, hand it into the teacher (sometimes performing it to the rest of the class if they wish) and the teacher gets a wide variety of creative homework’s that are all about the same topic! You may decide to reward students based upon the level of challenge they choose (e.g. a postcard home if they complete a ‘Creative Director’ challenge). Fully editable PowerPoint document that can be adapted to suit ANY subject area.

This staff CPD resource looks at how non-verbal behaviour management strategies can be used to promote positive behaviour and avoid confrontation. The CPD looks at how red, amber and green cards can be used within a lesson, as well as how routine can be a great behaviour management tool when your routines are established. Staff will be asked to create an action plan based on the ideas from the workshop where they focus on one class. This CPD focuses on areas of managing behaviour for positive outcomes from a teaching and learning perspective. The focus areas are: the environment, engagement, differentiation and rewards. There is a worksheet that each member of staff can have to record ideas, and at the end of the workshop each member of staff would complete a promise postcard where they promise to try one of the ideas. These postcards will be collected at the end of the workshop, and returned to staff at the end of the term so they can evaluate their personal progress and review impact.

In particular, students learn about how her tiresome, ungraceful, single-minded behaviour ironically alienates the very suitors that she hopes to attract for her daughters. The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which students learn through: - Establishing the extent to which Mrs Bennet fits the requirements of the 'Regency mother'; - Reading and understanding how Mrs Bennet is introduced in the novel, using relevant textual evidence; - Tracking how her character develops through the notable events of the novel; - Analysing how Austen introduces and develops Mrs Bennet's character throughout the novel; - Peer assessing each other's learning attempts. Included is: - Whole lesson PowerPoint - colourful and comprehensive; - Extract from Chapter 1; - 'Development of Mrs Bennet' task resources - with teacher answer sheet; - Supportive and clear essay template; - Comprehensive lesson plan.
