This guide is helpful for students and teachers in International Baccalaureate Math Standard Level. This 6 page document covers three main topics: Statistics, Binomial Distribution, and Normal Distribution. The guide instructs students on what buttons to press and what each of the features will do. From adding spreadsheets, analyzing a set of data, finding the linear regression, using the binomial pdf and cdf features, and using the normal pdf and cdf and inverse Norm features, this guide is a create tool to summarize what the students need to know for the calculator portion of the IB Math SL test. There are a few short examples (with answers provided) for students to test their understanding of the calculator features.

This is the third of four lessons on the normal distribution, which builds on the first two lessons. This is your A/A* material, looking at different types of questions and problems. This is an excellent resource, with lots and lots of excellent teaching slides, 21 slides. Specifically, this lesson is for teaching about how to work backwards and different questions. It does touch on linear combinations, so I recommend teaching that first (also available from my shop) and looks in detail at little issues/ mistakes that people can make. This is a vital lesson for your top end students and gives less able students more time to practise the normal distribution. I have therefore included two worksheets (exam questions) aimed at different abilities students and then come with accompanying mark schemes. This is a student workbook that can supplement lessons on hypothesis tests for a population mean. I teach the stages of hypothesis testing using analogies to a criminal trial. My students like this comparison; they are more engaged and it helps them to see the relevance of the different stages. Once students are confident with the terminology, we create our own courtroom in the classroom and role-play the stages of hypothesis testing with students acting as the jury, prosecution, judge and defence. Statistics 2 - 15 min exam question challenges

A collection of exam question challenges for the Edexcel Statistics 2 specification. Each worksheet consists of 2 or 3 sets of questions arranged in difficulty order. Each set of questions should take between 15-20 minutes to complete. How they are used can be up to the teacher, I have used these as either starter or plenary activities during review lessons where students are given a choice of which set of questions to complete in the 15 minute time limit. Then in pairs or groups work through any problems they may have encountered.

Continuous Random Variables Topic Mat

A mat to summarise key concepts from the S2 topic Continuous Random variables(Edexcel). I also include a suggestion for how the mat could be filled out. I usually use it as a plenary – ask the pupils for the key ideas from the lesson and collectively fill in sections over a sequence of lessons. At the end of a topic they have a topic mat from which to revise from. I also photocopy them on different coloured paper so they act as dividers in students’ folders. I am creating these resources as part of an action research project at my school looking at preparation for improving students retention across a two year linear course and trying to bring the science of memory into the classroom. This is the fourth of a series of lessons on the normal distribution. It is applicable for S2 in the UK, but international A-Level has this as a part of the S1 specification. 26 slides. This lesson needs to proceed lessons on the binomial and normal distributions, both available as a lesson in my shop. Specifically, this lesson is for teaching when to use the normal distribution as an approximation for a binomial distribution. It looks at why we use and looks in a lot of detail at common mistakes pupil's make in order for pupil's to avoid doing it and I have had excellent results on this topic using this resource. I have used the PowerPoint slides to structure the lesson and includes plenty of examples, superb teaching slides with lots of custom animation, keywords, learning objectives, differentiated questions and basic plenary. Notes include examples and explanations - essentially everything you would hope your students to copy down during the unit. The textbook exercise references are for the Nelson Mathematics Probability and Statistics Text (978-1-4085-1563-1). Which I highly recommend as an excellent text and which as been endorsed by Cambridge. Great for beginning teachers and also useful for students who are absent as you can print out a copy for their notes.
