1 hour, fully resourced PSHE / Life Skills lesson which focuses on perseverance, procrastination, what these are, why we do them and how we can apply advice to improve our focus in study and the wider world . The lesson is most suitable for KS4 or KS5 (but has been left editable) and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is useful for PSHE, Life Skills or Tutor Time. The pack includes a 1 hour / 90 min long PowerPoint, differentiated challenge activities, worksheets, clips and literacy focus tasks. The pupil then completes this task and places it on the right when completed. Having a clear visual for the pupil to identify where the finished tasks go is preferable. This clear structure allows the pupils to focus on the task they are completing and not be distracted by the work process. It is important to remember that when completing these tasks it is also about creating and building independence as well as success at the task, this is why the consistent work approach (working from left to right is so important) When using these tasks I would recommend using them for at least 4-6 weeks. For some children it may take up to a term for them to master the skill and be able to complete this independently.

These resources have been used at The Island Project as part of vocational learning as a way of engaging young people who struggled with ADHD, Autism, SEMH and challenging behaviour. Most learners who attend our project are also struggling academically and therefore these materials are designed to allow tutors to scale the difficultly as desired. This bundle contains 6 project plans and is aimed at giving young people the opportunity of learning about Ancient Egypt in a less academic way through more hands on activities using arts and crafts, social play, woodwork, Lego and more. This range of sessions was delivered over a 6 week half term, each session being focused on per week.

When people listen to the clip, some people seem to hear it as ‘Laurel’ and others seem to hear ‘Yanny’. The file included is an updated/new IEP template which is renamed ‘Pupil Learning Passport’. It is used successfully in conjunction with face-to-face parental meetings once per term. We allocated 20-25 minutes each for the Autumn term parental meetings and 10-15 minutes each for the Spring and Summer term meetings, although longer may be needed depending on the nature of the outcomes, progress made as well as the individual circumstances surrounding the pupil . Pupil Learning Passports (PLPs) can be used for SEND, LAC and disadvantaged pupils. What does it do? Outlines personal details and SEND category/categories Links to SEND ranges Outlines the pupil’s strengths, achievements and interests ( pupil discussions are held once a year prior to the first parental meeting). Outlines external agencies involved Outlines background information (status, medical and external agencies) Incorporates pupil voice - ‘barriers to learning’ and ‘I learn best when’ States outcomes and learning targets (Autumn, Spring and Summer) Outlines provision (intervention, resources, strategies and what I can do at home to help Tracks attainment and progress data Reviews outcomes Incorporates parent views Includes details of transition Why is it more effective? One document that is updated each term for one year and the follows the pupil into future year groups One document that tracks pupil progress for their whole school career from Reception to Y6, or whenever they join your school In-line with the SEND Code of Practice 2015, incorporating parent and pupil voice and views Sections are written in conjunction with the pupil It combines IEPs and Pupil Passports removing the need for two separate documents Links directly to SEND Provision Map Saves teachers time having ‘tick box’ options in various sections All relevant information needed for referrals is in one place All relevant information in one place to ensure all staff involved with the child is aware of provision, needs, resources and strategies Acts as a transition document (class to class/teacher to teacher, across Key stages and to new schools) Overall, it replaces a lot of singular documents and creates one meaningful and multi-purpose document for SEND pupils.

This is a lesson plan for a 20 minute microteach on the subject of socially appropriate behaviour for increasing independence. For example, if we are hygienic we will be given more responsibility on our work placement. If we are cautious what information we give away to strangers we will be able to spend more time at the shops etc without supervision and guidance. There are resources to accompany this lesson plan.

This resource is designed to help learners explore barriers to becoming more independent. The resource consists of case studies and a page of visual prompts to be considered as possible ways to break down barriers to independence. E.g. role playing an activity before doing it for real or using google images to plan a route to an unfamiliar place. Both effective ways to reduce anxiety levels. Learners are required to consider up to four basic cases studies and offer advice from the options provided. Advice can be different forms depending on the level of the learner e.g. Learners can illustrate the advice, using sheet 2 as guidance, they can copy the label of the advice or they can form their own sentence(s) inspired by the options provided. The activity can be used with the key words for independence to embed literacy skills.

Find out how your children like to learn. If they like drawing: They can draw characters with different facial expressions. They can draw their happy memories or sad memories. They can draw their family members or their friends. They can draw their calm place or happy place. They can draw something that scares them or something that makes them anxious. They can draw their angry feelings, triggers for anger or their style of anger. They can create cartoon stories. If they like playdough: They can make emotion faces on Face mats They can talk about the texture or smell of the playdough and how it calms them down. They can get rid of their angry feelings by squishing, and squashing that playdough. They can use their imagination to create anything at all. They can gain a sense of self-esteem by creating something. It can encourage talking and language skills. It can encourage turn taking and sharing.
