#### Science end of year quiz

This is a quiz i have made and used with year 7 through to year 11 and the students love it! Half the rounds are science related (periodic table, baby animals, biology, famous scientists, music, sport, brands and more!) I split the students into groups of 3 and keep a running total of marks from each round to give them a bit of competition. The answers are on the powerpoint in the note section so don’t panic! I find it’s a great and engaging, educational end to the year.

A really fun and interactive whole class game for Y9 - Y11 to stress the difference between mass and weight and practise converting from one to the other. Differentiated sheets for lower and higher ability. Teacher notes and instructions for the activity. Will fit nicely into a topic on Space or Forces. Promotes resilience when faced with a challenge and reciprocity when working in groups. Activity length 50 minutes - 1 hour.

#### Lighting Audit

In this lesson students complete a whole school lighting audit with the aim of de-lamping classrooms. Students use a lux meter to identify over-lit areas of the school and also manually count the types of lights used. Using their real world data, students make key recommendations on how energy use could be reduced at their school.

#### Topsoil Testing

During this lesson students investigate the role and importance of topsoil to food production and biodiversity. They begin exploring the role and importance of topsoil by observing a demonstration that uses an apple to visually demonstrate the parts of the Earth. Students will work in groups to test the quality of topsoil around their school. They then analyse the class data and work in groups to create a map of topsoil quality at their school and to make suggestions for improving topsoil quality. This lesson is designed to be taught outside. By spending time outdoors and connecting to nature, students are more likely to care for and conserve nature as adults.
