The News Quiz 16th - 30th October 2017 (2 weeks) Form Tutor Time Topical Events Settler Starter

The News Quiz 16th - 30th October 2017 (2 weeks) Form Tutor Time Topical Events Settler Starter

13 topical questions of the past week's news, across the UK and the world. Powerpoint so can be used on a standard whiteboard. Includes 2 literacy and 1 numeracy questions based on the other questions. Works well as a form group activity in registration time. I give sweets/reward points to the winning group! (We're not supposed to give out sweets so it's a nice 'naughty' reward for knowing about the world this week!) Created 38 school weeks of the year and uploaded to TES. Next one will be 30th October - this one covers two weeks as next week is half term for most schools.

Shadows - Game, Vocabulary and Visual Story Prompts + 31 Fun Teaching Activities For The Classroom

Shadows - Game, Vocabulary and Visual Story Prompts + 31 Fun Teaching Activities For The Classroom

You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different shadows being shown in each of the photos. I have collected together some of my best teaching resources about shadows and I think they would make a lovely lesson. There is the game of guess the shadow, followed by reviewing the key words about shadows and a creative writing task to complete. In addition, I have added a teacher guide which explains how to complete another 31 different fun tasks using these resources. You could print off and laminate the photos to make an interesting, eye-catching set of story prompts. The students could also take five of the laminated photos and create them into a story . The photos could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.

Welcome To The United Kingdom

Welcome To The United Kingdom

Stephen Fry has joined forces with Heathrow Airport to produce an extremely British advert which show exactly how strange this little island is with its love of queuing, the way Brits spend half their days saying 'after you' and how we clap when people break things. The more you think about it, the weirder we seem — and to top it all off, Fry explains all this from a nice old fashioned pub, where Brits (probably) spend more time than they do in the office (!) Your students task is to discuss why they think Stephen Fry was chosen to host such a welcome and choose the perfect candidate for a welcoming sequence they will write for your own country

A creative project that uses Enterprise, Citizenship, Oracy, Design and Teamwork. Great for KS3 on a PSHE drop day or over a few sessions or for a cross-curricular project. Can also run as a competition and have a few groups presenting to judges in front of an audience. The assessment sheet can be used by the teacher and/or for peer assessment.
