What are map projections? A geography CLIL / ESL lesson plan

What are map projections? A geography CLIL / ESL lesson plan

Key information: • Teaching geography in English at A2 to B1 level • Two 45-minute lessons • Student’s handouts + Teacher’s notes • English language support for both teacher and students Rationale: In these lessons, learners compare map projections to see how their view of the world can change. Learners will develop their understanding of how representing the world as a map, and how representing a 3D object as a 2D object causes distortions. The lesson provides a meaningful context to use comparatives, modals for possibility and certainty, and expressions of opinion. Content objectives: To compare and evaluate different map projections. Language objectives: To use long and short adjectives to compare different elements in a map and draw conclusions; to use modals to express possibility (could, might) and certainty (must, can’t); to use expressions of opinion such as 'I think', 'I feel', 'I suppose'. These lessons have been designed to support teachers’ and learners’ use of English in the following contexts: • bilingual education • Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) • English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) • Content-Based Instruction (CBI) • English as a Second Language (ESL) • English as a Foreign Language (EFL).

Ancient Greece Bundle

Ancient Greece Bundle

This bundle is a combination of Week 1 Topic work on Ancient Greece, alongside playscripts based on Ancient Greek Myths (Literacy) and a week of Explanation Texts based on the Ancient Greeks too. The Literacy planning includes a week's worth of planning and differentiated resources along with an interactive notebook to support the lesson. The Ancient Greece Topic lesson, introduces children to Ancient Greece and provide them with the background knowledge for their Literacy lesson. Both have been taught by myself with my Year 5 class, who LOVED learning about the Ancient Greeks. I bundled them together for anyone (like me), who will teach them on the same/consecutive weeks.
