Moorland Balance - The Science Behind Grouse Shooting and Moorland Management

Moorland Balance - The Science Behind Grouse Shooting and Moorland Management

In the eyes of country sports followers, driven grouse shooting is the supreme challenge, the most blissful joy. To its foes, however, it represents all manner of things they recoil from: they believe that they see simply rich men in antique fancy dress killing wild creatures for their amusement, in a setting that should properly be the playground of raptors and hillwalkers. The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) seeks to use scientific research to demonstrate that what urban visitors perceive as wildernesses in a state of grace are, in truth, landscapes that demand expensive management for the benefit of all wildlife. This report has been prepared to clarify just how much is, and is not, known about the sustainable management of our uplands. The GWCT, a research and education charity conducting this essential conservation science, is well placed to help inform this debate. This resource presents the full report, essential research material for students of environmental, land management and countryside studies.

THE DISAPPEARANCE OF THE ORANGE ORCHARD - RIVERLAND SOUTH AUSTRALIA

THE DISAPPEARANCE OF THE ORANGE ORCHARD - RIVERLAND SOUTH AUSTRALIA

At first glance this may seem like a strange title. Perhaps it is. However if your are looking for a ready made unit of work this unit meets that need. It starts really with a pile of discarded irrigation material and allows the farmer to explain why he had to remove the orchard. Students, particularly those not familiar with farming communities and the problems faced by farmers will probably not have an awareness of the issue raised. Listen to the farmer. Lament with him the loss of his high quality oranges and share his sense of loss as he bulldozed his trees. Recognise the links between production, marketing and supermarket. Maybe discuss programmes that focus on supporting rural producers. The title may be a bit strange but the realities are ever present. This unit also supports Agriculture - land based studies under the Vocational studies listings.

10 Ways to Reboot your Motivation for Exam Revision

10 Ways to Reboot your Motivation for Exam Revision

This resource is aimed at FE and HE students who require motivation during the exam period. I do believe my tips will also be applicable to students who are revising for GCSE and A levels too. My aim is to improve the motivation of students to revise and to provide them with the strategies necessary to feel confident and achieve success in their exams this year. My resource will be useful for teachers who would like additional ideas for motivating their students to revise and students themselves. Also for parents, so that they can have insight into the importance of their invaluable support and motivational qualities that they can provide for their children during this stressful period.

Basic Excel Calculations for Beginners

Basic Excel Calculations for Beginners

This resource is for those that are new to Microsoft Excel and want to quickly learn and practice using calculations in Excel. The spreadsheet has a number of different sheets within it that have clear instructions and practice exercises to use for yourself or your learners to quickly master basic concepts. I have used this to teach students and workplace learners with much success. Covers addition, subtraction, multiplication and division on sheet 1. Sheet 2 has Autosum and subsequent sheets practice using these with common spreadsheets such as invoices and profit and loss scenarios. Simply give learners a copy of this spreadsheet and work through together or let them try by themselves. ** Leave a review for this resource and receive one free resource of your choice from my shop. Enterprise Leadership/Communication/Teamwork Skills Activity

Enterprise Leadership/Communication/Teamwork Skills Activity

A resource that can be used on Enterprise and extra curricular days or as part of subjects like BTEC Public Services. Students are split into teams and each group has a leader to communicate with their group (who are blindfolded) through the minefield. Whichever group gets through the minefield first is the winner - activity is timed. Time however, is deducted for every 'mine' stepped on. So the initial winning team may not be not be after all.
