Understanding the role of the equals sign

Understanding the role of the equals sign

I couldn't find any materials on this when I needed to teach my year 3 class what the equals sign REALLY meant. I have included the lesson plan I used, the 3 differentiated worksheets and a Powerpoint I made. Also have included a homework set of resource sheets (could alternatively be used in class as a reinforcement at a later date.) UPDATE: I have added a more challenging resource for year 3/4

2018 KS2 SATs Arithmetic Practice Papers (Full Version)

2018 KS2 SATs Arithmetic Practice Papers (Full Version)

Practice KS2 SATs arithmetic papers, updated for 2018 tests. Included: • 10x practice papers • Answers • Test analysis excel spreadsheet • Test coverage document (39 different question types) These papers have been produced after careful and thorough analysis of the sample, 2016 and 2017 arithmetic papers, and the test developers’ framework. From this, I’ve identified all possible question types that could come up in future papers. In total, there are 39 different areas, and each area is tested in every one of the 10 practice papers. Question 1 always tests the same objective (as does question 2 etc.), making this the perfect gap analysis tool in preparation for the KS2 arithmetic test. In light of the 2017 paper, question types include: • Finding % of a number using scaling (e.g. 7% of 500) • Finding % of a number using place value (e.g. 15% x 1,000) • Place value scaling (e.g. 0.9 x 200) • 1x missing box question per paper NOTE: In order for each paper to cover all question types, there are 41 questions (45 marks) as opposed to the 36 questions (40 marks) in the official arithmetic papers. Therefore, instead of allowing 30 minutes for the test, you should allow 35 minutes.

Fill It In Number Game - add & take 1s and 10s

Fill It In Number Game - add & take 1s and 10s

A number game that children can access independently to practise adding and subtracting in 1s and in 10s in the same style you would on a 100 square. I would recommend laminating this resource so that children can use over and over again - my class love it!

Whole Number Division Strategies Interactive Notebook Set

Whole Number Division Strategies Interactive Notebook Set

In this lesson, you will use base ten blocks and models to introduce and practice three alternative division strategies: fair sharing, area model, and partial quotients. The lesson uses whole numbers to introduce the concept, while the anchor station has a set of whole number expressions and set of decimal expressions. This lesson is meant to be done with your students, ideally in small groups, but is also appropriate for whole group direct instruction. . Although this lesson uses 2 digit divisors, it could also be used with fourth graders because all questions are used with models. Use your lesson time wisely with this low prep notebook activity. All pieces are designed to fit neatly into your students' interactive notebooks and are jam-packed with info to minimize copying, cutting, folding, and gluing so that you can make the most of your prep and instructional time.
