La classe - A quoi ca sert? - Card Game

La classe - A quoi ca sert? - Card Game

This game is a French version of the classic " I have… Who has …? " game, designed to practice the classroom objects and what we use them for (verbs like write, read, colour, paint, cut, erase etc). This is an easy-to-play game and a great way to practice essential language concepts with the whole class. As students match up the answers on their cards with questions on other students’ cards, they get valuable practice with vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills. Directions: Cut out the cards along the dotted line and laminate. For bigger classes, you might want to print several copies of each set. Give out all the cards in the set to the students. It is important to use all the cards. Choose a student to go first. I usually do that by a counting rhyme. Have the selected student read the question at the bottom of the card aloud and then put the card down. The student who has the card with the answer then reads that answer aloud. This student will then read the question at the bottom of their card and put the card down. Play continues in this fashion until all of the cards have been played. The game will end with the same student who started play. Every card in the set is connected to a card before it and a card after it. To keep the game moving at a quick pace, all students need to pay attention to every question that has been asked. I tell my younger students that this is a magic game and that the magic only works if you pay attention, which is actually true. The magic happens in the end, when the question on the last card actually matches the answer on the very first card. Enjoy!

FRENCH TELLING TIME FLASHCARDS POSTERS

FRENCH TELLING TIME FLASHCARDS POSTERS

CREATE AN INSTANT INTRODUCTION TO TELLING THE TIME IN FRENCH IN YOUR CLASSROOM - PERFECT FOR READING, SPEAKING, PRONUNCIATION & VISUAL LEARNING PROMPTS TOO! These flashcards/posters create a fabulous FRENCH feel to your classroom, also promoting FRENCH as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the classroom. The flashcards/posters introduce students to telling the time in FRENCH from the very beginning of their learning, and they can see a practical use too. They’re also able to familiarise themselves with the ‘look’ of FRENCH words, and how sounds are represented in the written form. Using flashcards to introduce and practise new language is a proven successful teaching and learning technique. There are 56 flashcards/posters featuring the clock times o’clock and half past the hour, from one to twelve o’clock, and including midday and midnight. This is a great opportunity to begin to compare FRENCH to English. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from, English, helps students become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages. This is really useful for both current and later learning. It doesn’t matter if you’re not currently focusing on telling the time in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards/posters provide students with daily opportunities to engage implicitly with the time in FRENCH, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in FRENCH. They also help students begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. Print with the colour or B&W background according to your preference. Laminate if possible, and/or print on card stock: they are easier to handle as flashcards, and as posters, they’ll hang really nicely, stay in good shape, and you’ll be able to use them for years to come! The resource comprises 2 non-editable files in a zipped format. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - this resource is copyright, and for single-teacher/ classroom/ purchaser use only. MERCI BEAUCOUP!

French Teaching Resources. Battleships/ Lotto:Time, school subjects & opinions.

French Teaching Resources. Battleships/ Lotto:Time, school subjects & opinions.

Expressions: Le mercredi, à dix heures Le lundi à onze heures Le mardi à huit heures moins le quart Le jeudi à une heure moins vingt Le dimanche à deux heures moins vingt-cinq on a musique. on a dessin, c’est génial ! nous avons allemand, c’est intéressant. j’ai histoire, c’est nul. il a EPS, c’est très fatigant. elle a l’art dramatique, ce n’est pas marrant. Battleships Game Instructions The students love this competitive and fun game! I use this battleships game (which can also be used as a lotto grid) to help students to practise their pronunciation and to reinforce new vocabulary and grammatical structures. Firstly I ask the students to work independently in pairs to translate the expressions. The students then focus on pronunciation and decide the two easiest and two most difficult words to pronounce. I then check the translations and drill pronunciation with the whole class before they play the game. The students secretly choose 5 squares on the top grid and then try to guess which 5 squares their partner has chosen, filling in the bottom grid with “hit” and “miss.” To choose a square say a phrase from the horizontal line and complete the sentence with a phrase from the vertical line. Where the 2 phrases meet up is the square you have chosen. I use the English language sheet to further challenge the students: they should place this on top of the French version and then try to play the game saying the French phrases as far as possible from memory. I allow the really weak students to have the French version next to the English version so they have lots of support, stronger students are allowed a few “sneaky peaks” at the French version and the really strong students aim to refer back to the French version as little as possible. This really helps the students to memorise the vocabulary/structures! During the game I circulate the classroom checking pronunciation. This is followed by whole class drilling of pronunciation mistakes. Enjoy!
