L.S Lowry Artist Study Lesson Pack- KS1

L.S Lowry Artist Study Lesson Pack- KS1

My powerpoint contains many of his most popular paintings (whole urban landscape focus) to be displayed on IWB for children to view and discuss. There is also a worksheet on one slide to be printed off- for them to fill in with features/distinguishing/key aspects of his work (focusing on figures in the landscapes) and opportunity to practice sketching some of his figures. Then there are also some larger images of figures he painted to be printed off for a lesson on simplifying a human figure- dark paint/quick strokes/.focus on shape and position of legs/arms to show movement. A few slides also explain his childhood- where he grew up and what it was like- and early life as an artist/inspiration for painting. Old photographs have been added to teach about the industrial revolution and to see what it would've looked like whilst he was alive and painting. Some slides also show buildings in his paintings compared to the mills there now- to show the impact on the local area. Children then had a go painting in his style- copying off one of his iconic urban scenes/dreary colours/ stick men/mills painted etc. To finish my project (KS1) - my class took photos of their local area- which I printed off- then they painted in the style of Lowry- to include the mills as they are today/ terraced houses left by mill owners- people walking on streets- but showing how it is today! My class truly enjoyed learning about Lowry! :)
