Developing Spontaneous Speech in MFL lessons- DIY course

Developing Spontaneous Speech in MFL lessons- DIY course

**This training is aimed at middle leaders or curriculum leaders who are looking for effective strategies to develop spontaneous language in MFL lessons and wish to implement the New MFL curriculum framework successfully. ** The course is divided in 5 parts that can be delivered as a one-off training (e.g. training day) or in individual sections (e.g. team meetings) Part 1 Exploring communication skills: opportunities to review and discuss own practice. **Part 2 Research and principles: **familiarise with communication and language acquisition methods and theories. **Part 3 Obstacles and solutions: **identify the roots causes of limited spontaneous communication and work out solutions. Part 4 Strategies: familiarise with a range of concrete classroom activities and strategies Part 5 Planning for the future: activities to ensure concrete and durable outcomes. This course is a DIY course which in a nutshell means: • One person (E.g. Head of Department, Curriculum Leader, etc.) familiarises with the course content and materials. • That same person delivers the course to others (E.g. team members), in the process s/he acquires skills as a trainer and gets the option to be rewarded with a validation certificate should s/he want to complete and submit the validation form at the end. Advantages of a DIY course: • Professional development happens at different levels, for different purposes. • It is more cost effective than traditional courses. • It prevents the headache of booking a course and is time effective. • With its flexible format, it can be delivered at any time, as a one-off course or in sections. Each part of the course contains a PowerPoint presentation, trainer guidance and handouts. Also provided are, the validation form and additional templates.

Stretch and Challenge Graph - Getting the level of challenge right!

Stretch and Challenge Graph - Getting the level of challenge right!

Hand out a graph per student as they enter the room (I keep anonymous unless they want to write their name on the back) Inform them what challenge is - a little out of their comfort zone get students to plot the points of their learning journey throughout the lesson This is a great way to reflect on your teaching - was their enough challenge. The results may surprise you.

TA Activity Planner (Editable)

TA Activity Planner (Editable)

I created this resource when I was completing my teacher training as I wanted to evidence that I had explicitly planned for a teaching assistant. I found it worked really well, especially as the TA was fairly new to the role. I would recommend this resource to NQTs and teachers with new teaching assistants. I have left an example plan that can be edited. The second sheet also allows the TA to give some written feedback about how the activity went.
