Still Looking For A Teaching Job? Follow This Checklist

Still Looking For A Teaching Job? Follow This Checklist

Teaching is the dream profession of many young graduates. It gives them a chance to be heard and share their knowledge with others. It’s a great profession for those who have leadership skills and want to be social. If you have applied to a number of teaching positions and still haven’t become successful, here’s a checklist for you: Consider moving Instead of limiting your job search to your neighboring schools and colleges, send the applications to big schools even if they are far away. If you get selected, you can always move to another city. After all, a job at a premiere college or school will be a great move for your career. Get your paperwork ready Make sure you have your resume, cover letter, and other documents ready. Proofread your resume several times to make sure it does not have any mistakes. Be available on social networks Your presence on social media networks like LinkedIn can help you build connections. If you are connected to administrators from colleges and schools, there are chances that they will prefer you over others when it’s time to hire. Attend job fairs Attend the job fairs held at your alma mater along with those at the neighboring colleges and universities. You have better chances of being selected at your alma mater than the others. Prepare for the interview There are some questions that are asked frequently. For example, “what can you bring to this school” and “how do you plan to influence the students”. Come up with witty and professional answers for these questions. Share vignettes Be open during the interview and share some positive vignettes about your previous experiences. These could include student achievements, classroom management, and unique teaching methodologies that you follow. Follow-up Sometimes the college or school might take extra time in hiring. If you follow up using emails, there are higher chances of you being hired. When you email them, state again that you would love to work with them. Stay positive It’s a tough economy but teaching positions keep opening every now and then in various schools and colleges. Don’t give up hope and you’ll soon bag a great teaching job. That’s it for now Busy Educator. Until next time, Talk to each other, support each other, take care of each other.’ Marjan

Don't let them junk your resume avoid these mistakes

Don’t Let Them Junk Your Resume – Avoid These Mistakes There are many people who have all the right qualifications and skills, but somehow never get called for an interview. Are you one of them? Maybe you’re not showcasing your skills the right way. Your resume is something that creates your first impression. If it’s not perfect, it might get thrown in the trash or recycle bin. Yes, as distressing it may sound, if the HR team finds blaring mistakes in your resume, they will just delete it from their list. Here is a list of common mistakes that many prospective teachers make and miss excellent opportunities to work in their preferred schools or colleges.

Careers provision map to meet the new statutory guidance from Jan 2018 (GATSBY)

This is a careers strategy that maps out careers provision from Y7-Y13 to help your school become compliant with the new statutory changes for careers launched in January 2018. The roll out of this plan will satisfy all Gatsby standards which outlines best practice in this area. The document is a comprehensive map of provision that can be adapted to any school setting (including one with a sixth form). The document can be edited so that you can include your school branding. The idea is the map is then printed at size A1. I have also included some recruitment documents and the pupil survey.

🕑 Essential Teacher Resources 🕑 Timetables for Revision, Parents' Evening & Teachers

🕑 Essential Teacher Resources 🕑 Timetables for Revision, Parents' Evening & Teachers

The most interesting resource here is my idea for a FLEXIBLE revision timetable that worked very well with my daughter and was later loved by many of my students. The most important rule is: You don't fill anything out in advance. Let's say on Monday you really feel like doing some maths (obviously) and also your French teacher has set you a revision task. So you spend the evening studying maths and French. I usually advise between 30 mins and an hour on each subject depending on the strength of the student, so a total of 1-2 hours per evening. After studying, you fill out the Monday slot with what you actually did e.g. Maths: Trigonometry, French: Shopping vocab, and, most importantly, you cross off an "M" and an "F" from the subject grid at the end. This is repeated all week, but you're only allowed to study subjects that you haven't crossed off. By the weekend you're left to study the final remaining two subjects, and this ensures that you spend a fair amount of time on every subject without forcing you to do a specific one each day. This also leaves Sunday free to either relax or to catch up with any subjects you missed during the week for whatever reason. The subject grid can be modified to include multiple squares for more important or weaker subjects. For example in the attached version English is Poi's second language so we assigned three out of the twelve slots. Also included: 🕑 An aesthetically-designed set of timetables for a biweekly teacher's timetable. 🕑 A simple Parents' Evening timetable to put outside the room for parents to refer to. 🌟😊🌟 PLEASE RATE THIS RESOURCE 🌟😊🌟

TES Authors' Resource Bundle by a Top Selling Author - Guide - Hints and Tips, Excel Sales and Accounts Tracker, Author Calendar and Planner

TES Authors' Resource Bundle by a Top Selling Author - Guide - Hints and Tips, Excel Sales and Accounts Tracker, Author Calendar and Planner

This bundle contains three valuable resources for authors. Whether you are a potential author, an author just starting out or already an author; I am sure that these resources can help you in some way and will prove a worthwhile investment. 'How to Become a Successful TES Author - Step by Step Guide' I began to produce resources for TES in August 2015. When I look back at my early resources I cringe! I made so many mistakes…. Since then I have come a long way and learned so much. I have consistently been in the top ten selling authors and currently have 45 TES recommended resources. One of my resources made over 900 sales in the space of a few weeks and earned nearly £2000 in royalties. In 2017 I was shortlisted as one of eight nominees for the TES 2017, Bev Evans, Author of the Year Award. In this 26-page, step by step guide I share my mistakes and my successes to help you avoid making the same mistakes and to become a successful author sooner than you would have done without this guide. I do not claim to have all the answers and ‘my way’ might not be other people’s way. Author Resource - Excel Sales and Accounts Workbook This resource will help you to keep an account of the numbers of your sales and earnings each day. It will provide valuable data which will help to inform you how to most effectively manage your business. This excel work-book will • Keep accounts of daily / weekly / monthly and yearly sales figures and numbers of products sold • Record sales figures in graph format • Provide real-time averages of products sold and sales figures for each day of the week • Provide real-time averages of products sold and sales figures for each week of the year • Provide real-time averages of products sold and sales figures for each month of the year • Provide real-time averages of products sold and sales figures for each year It will enable you to analyse  Which days are the best for sales  How TES sales or individual sales impact on numbers of products sold  Observe trends in sales throughout the year The workbook has been set for a 5 year period from September 2016 until December 2021. Author Calendar and Planner Nine out of ten of my top selling resources are seasonal resources and ‘special day’ resources. My everyday resources are my 'bread and butter' resources; my seasonal resources are truly the icing on my cake! Keep ahead and plan your seasonal resources with this calendar and planner which contains all the major special days and awareness days for the whole year. No more missing special days or not allocating yourself enough time to produce resources. Days that change in date each year are highlighted red; days that are fixed are black. It is available in PDF and word format to allow editing. Purchased individually these resources would cost £9.50. Grab yourself a bargain and buy the bundle for just £5.99. That's a massive saving of 37%!

KS1 & KS2 PSHE Master Pack [Make your own PHILOSOPHY BOXES sessions!]

KS1 & KS2 PSHE Master Pack [Make your own PHILOSOPHY BOXES sessions!]

The download comprises 19 X PSHE lessons/sessions that can be used multiple times with the same group. It also contains the editable template that allows you to make your own PHILOSOPHY BOXES sessions. The method uses a selection of debate and discussion activities to explore PSHE issues for KS1 and KS2 students. This download is designed to be a significant component of any primary school’s PSHE provision. A demo of the method can be found here: https://goo.gl/DrcSqv [though the content is not relevant to PSHE, it shows how the approach works] The Philosophy Boxes Method is a new approach to P4C designed for students in KS1, 2 & 3: it is graphically stimulating, engaging, and fun. This download is also suitable for older students: but the format was designed with younger students in mind. In this context: ‘Philosophy Boxes’ represents a more student-centred ‘debate & discussion’ approach to PSHE issues. The aim of Philosophy Boxes is to bring philosophy and critical thinking into every subject at every level: we believe that any subject becomes philosophy when students are asked the right questions and when they think about a topic hard enough and on the deepest (most fundamental) level. The Philosophy Boxes Method presents students with a set of ‘mystery boxes’, when a student selects one of the boxes they are presented with 1 of 21 discussion/debate activities [that use 1 of 8 different formats]. The presentation has integrated AfL so that teachers can test knowledge at any point in the lesson. There are 10 different AfL slides to choose from. The design is colourful, animated, fun and engaging: all activities require movement and teachers can decide whether students are expressing their ideas purely verbally or by using post-it notes. The nature of the design is that it can be used for short sessions (5-10 minutes) or much longer sessions (up to 2 hours!) - it allows for classroom practitioners to be flexible and adaptable. It can, therefore, be used in lessons or as a tutor-time activity. The download includes a PowerPoint Show; if you would like an editable PPT presentation so that you can make your own ‘Philosophy Boxes’ presentation you will need to download the template here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/-the-philosophy-boxes-method-template-for-creating-your-own-philosophy-boxes-lessons-p4c-p4k-11463227 A complete selection of Philosophy Boxes lessons can be found here: https://www.tes.com/resources/search/?&q=philosophy+boxes+godwin86 This PSHE course is based around the topics listed on the BBC Bitesize Resources for KS1 & KS2 PSHE (their content can be used alongside these resources to bolster your PSHE provision, though this download does not require additional preparation or resources) [http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/subjects/zqtnvcw] Check-out some of my most popular resources: GCSE Religious Studies Buddhism (20 Lesson Unit) Buddhism (Thematic Studies Units) Christianity (Thematic Studies Units) Hinduism (20 Lesson Unit) Islam (Thematic Studies Units) .    GCSE Sociology Resources Complete Units (Whole Course) .  AS/A2 Revision Sessions OCR Religious Studies AQA Philosophy AQA Sociology .  Philosophy for Children (P4C) The Ultimate P4C Resource Pack The Debating Society Toolkit Philosophy Boxes . In this context: 'Philosophy Boxes' represents a more student-centred 'debate & discussion' approach to PSHE issues. The aim of Philosophy Boxes is to bring philosophy and critical thinking into every subject at every level: we believe that any subject becomes philosophy when students are asked the right questions and when they think about a topic hard enough and on the deepest (most fundamental) level. The Philosophy Boxes Method presents students with a set of 'mystery boxes', when a student selects one of the boxes they are presented with 1 of 21 discussion/debate activities [that use 1 of 8 different formats]. The download includes a PowerPoint Show; if you would like an editable PPT presentation so that you can make your own 'Philosophy Boxes' presentation you will need to download the template here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/-the-philosophy-boxes-method-template-for-creating-your-own-philosophy-boxes-lessons-p4c-p4k-11463227 A complete selection of Philosophy Boxes lessons can be found here: https://www.tes.com/resources/search/?&q=philosophy+boxes+godwin86 This PSHE course is based around the topics listed on the BBC Bitesize Resources for KS1 & KS2 PSHE (their content can be used alongside these resources to bolster your PSHE provision, though this download does not require additional preparation or resources) [http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/subjects/zqtnvcw]

'How to Become a Successful TES Author - Step by Step Guide' - By a Top Selling TES Author

I began to produce resources for TES in August 2015. When I look back at some of my early resources I cringe! I made so many mistakes…. Since then I have come a long way and learned so much. I have consistently been one of the top selling authors on TES and have 47 TES recommended resources. One of my resources made over 900 sales in the space of a few weeks and earned nearly £2000 in royalties. I was also shortlisted as one of eight nominees for the TES 2017, Bev Evans, Author of the Year Award. In this 26-page, step by step guide I share my mistakes and my successes to help you avoid making the same mistakes and to become a successful author sooner than you would have done without this guide.
