ESL Scattergories Game

ESL Scattergories Game

ESL Scattergories Game This is a really fun activity to play with your students as they practice and build their vocabulary. Scattergories is the perfect game! You can play this game with students of literally any age or level. Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them! 24 games are included with 96 different categories! You can either print out the game sheets or project them to save paper and ink. For younger students you can allow more time for them to think and write, while older students will love the challenge of the timer. Ice Breaker Bingo

Ice Breaker Bingo

An ideal ice-breaker!! Excellent bingo for the first class of the year. It will allow students to get to know one another as well as practice asking personal questions to find out about their classmates. It creates a positive group atmosphere! Every time a students asks another classmate a question and gets "yes" for an answer, they can cross out that box. First student to get all boxes crossed out wins the game! Not possible to ask all the questions to the same partner! And then students report to the class what they have learned about their classmates!

English / Literacy: 'The Playground' Story Structure Writing Activity

'The Playground' starts with the opening line: Everything stopped, everything a statue all around me. Frozen in time. This lesson resource gets children to brainstorm and write the rest of the story using their own imagination, using the above opening line and a playground photograph as stimuli. The objective and success criteria are: To write a complete story Success Criteria: * My story has a beginning, middle and end * The events of my story flow and make sense * I can engage the reader using description / feelings / varied sentences The lesson presentation is in Smartboard format with detailed, engaging slides which promote talk partner discussion, teacher modelling, an independent white board task, clear objectives and plenary. It can easily be adapted for different KS2 year groups and a different writing focus other than story structure, e.g. tense, sentence starters, grammar or vocabulary.

Ice Breaker - Things in Common Activity

Ice Breaker - Things in Common Activity

This activity is for learners to get to know more about each other. It can be used as a warmer or ice breaker at the beginning of a lesson. Hand out the worksheet and have students work in pairs to fill it in. They need to talk to other people in the class to find out anything that they may have in common. Works well for a speaking activity. Is a lot of fun!
