J'habite en France

J'habite en France

This set of resources is aimed at KS3 level students or beginner students. It includes material to go over the topic of "where I live" whilst including a cultural element and taking students through several French cities. I like to finish this off the lesson with a video of 'Les Machines de l'Ile de Nantes' to give students a little insight of what is produced and created in France.

French - Give the paintings a name

French - Give the paintings a name

The idea of this activity is for the pupils to give the four French paintings their own titles. It’s amazing what they come up with! I would advise you give them dictionaries. Ideal as a starter for a dictionary skills lesson.

French - Describe the painting

French - Describe the painting

Using Monet's painting, 'Jardin à Sainte-Adresse' and example sentences underneath the painting, pupils have to change one word (if it’s a noun, they can change le/la) to make a sentence of their own. This activity focuses in particular on colours and agreements.

Brussels comic strip mural / Bruxelles parcours BD

I believe that reading comic books from francophone countries (in English or French) is a major cultural point. The Brussel comic strip mural walk is amazing but sadly not everyone has the chance to go there. This website offers your students the possibility to check that famous city walk through an interactive map.

Primary French Day with sport, cookery, art and Paris architecture, KS1 KS2

Primary French Day with sport, cookery, art and Paris architecture, KS1 KS2

If you have been tasked to plan a French Day in school but don't know where to start then this is for you. There are 4 sessions which will last at least an hour each. The information pack tells you how to deliver each session. There's a petanque session (you will need at least 4 petanque sets but I've found these cheap at 'The Works' bookshop, a cookery session (madeleines and salade nicoise, madeleine trays available for just £2 on amazon), and art session all about Monet and Toulouse Lautrec, with a different art activity for classes from Reception to Y6 to do and a French session which will could be led by the teacher organising the day but doesn't have to be. There's an evaluation sheet for children to give you feedback at the end and a letter to parents that you can adapt as you see fit. There is a timetable for the day in the info. pack you would only need change the times to suit your school. I have spent about 3 days pulling these resources together and will be using them in three of the schools where I am employed permanently as a French teacher. This literally is all you will need.

PRIMARY FRENCH FACTS ACTIVITIES 1

PRIMARY FRENCH FACTS ACTIVITIES 1

PERFECT FOR INTRODUCING AND EXPLORING FRANCE - 20 FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT ALL THINGS FRENCH - WITH PRESENTATION / DISCUSSION ACTIVITY & DIFFERENTIATED QUESTION CARDS AND WRITING ACTIVITIES FRENCH FASCINATING FACTS ACTIVITIES really do help to create a lively language learning environment, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led ’information about France’ lessons. Children can develop their knowledge of THE FRANCOPHONE WORLD - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of aligning language learning with developing literacy skills in English. The resource comprises the following six files: 20 FACTS CARDS - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups: geography, country, landmarks, language and food. There are four cards per A4 sheet. The language on each of the cards ranges from fairly basic to more advanced, which challenges and enhances children’s English skills. RECORDING SHEET CHALLENGE ONE - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per A4 page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes. Encourage children to be as accurate as possible with their spelling and punctuation, to pay particular attention to the spelling and accents of the FRENCH words that are included, and of course to make sure they are recording the facts in their best handwriting. RECORDING SHEET CHALLENGE TWO - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned. Encourage children to look for lateral information, such as the existence of other countries where FRENCH is spoken, and to think about the continent where those countries are located. 24 QUESTION CARDS AND ANSWER RECORDING SHEET — the questions have a differentiated range of challenge. The answer recording sheet prompts children to write their answer. SETS 1 & 2 are available together at the special price of £5.00: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/primary-french-facts-activities-1-and-2-11700399 This pack comprises 6 non-editable files in a zipped format.
