French key core vocabulary laminate

French key core vocabulary laminate

From Year 7 to Year 11. Great help for some French key core vocabulary (speaking/writing/grammar). Front side: date, question words, questions and answers to get the students to use the TL in lessons, sentence openers to write paragraphs and a summary of tenses. Back side: time phrases, tenses, sentence openers, intensifiers, adjectives, quantities, connectives, negative forms, superlatives, comparatives, prepositions, talking about others and idioms. Laminate to display on the students’ tables. I would advise printing it out on A3.

French idioms worksheet

French idioms worksheet

For extra fluency, use idioms. But how do we get students to appreciate the meaning behind the sometimes bizarre literal translations? Make the bizarre literal translations the point of the exercise. It doesn’t take much to work this into your lesson, and you effectively only need to do it once because the students will have a copy of the idioms waiting to be used, whenever they think to use them. The students only need a dictionary. If you want to make it harder, give them a limit to how many words they can get translated for them (say, 3) and you use an online dictionary to show them what they mean. That way they need to look carefully at the phrases, work out what stumps them most, and get help for the phrases that they are least likely to be able to work out themselves. The second sheet is the answer sheet.

French Taboo game - Le Petit Prince

French Taboo game - Le Petit Prince

Playing games and having fun is when learning really happens in French class. I love to play the game Taboo with my students. French Taboo is a game that is easy to modify and use with beginners and advanced students alike. This Taboo set is about the wonderful and delightful classic story of the Petit Prince written by Antoine de Saint Exupéry. This Taboo set Special le Petit Prince edition includes 167 Vocabulary words translated as well as files in French only. Great for Immersion schools! Object of the game One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can’t use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. The teams take turn guessing and verifying no Taboo words have been used. You can also play this game in pairs if everyone agrees not to cheat. Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues. You can also have your students study the vocabulary on the cards! holiday activities using nous + present tense

holiday activities using nous + present tense

I created this resource to support Y8 on their unit 5 in the Studio book. Starting with the very basic nous + present tense expressions, I made a table with more complex structures to show students how they can extend their sentences. This worksheet has a big match-up exercise and a writing task. Ideal for beginners. Covers the topic of typical holiday activities.

Kids love drawing, and the pictures they draw will later serve as inspiration! ✍Mardi: Mon livret de vocabulaire - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used French words. Page three lists 12 words that go along with the theme of the week, and the back page has space for ten words that students have either thought of on their own or looked up in the dictionary. The booklet is a simple one page printable that you can either fold in advance or have students do it on their own. Kids write their name on the front cover and you could have them color it. ✍Mercredi: Vocabulaire - Students go back to their vocabulary booklets from Tuesday and choose ten words that they will include in their rough draft. The words they choose can be a combination of words they have chosen and themed vocabulary that was already written in the booklet. They then write down the chosen words on their vocabulary page that says “ Mots de vocabulaire utiles: J’utiliserai ces mots dans mon paragraphe.” ✍Jeudi: Mon brouillon - Students write a rough draft of their paragraph using the vocabulary words selected on Wednesday. The brouillon page includes a 5 point checklist at the top for students to evaluate their work for themselves before writing the final copy on Friday. This will motivate students to look over their work and make corrections. ✍Vendredi: Ma copie propre - The fifth and final step in this writing program is to write the final copy. Students should feel very confident in writing about this week’s theme by now. At the top of the final copy page they’ll see the writing prompt and question words that they can ask themselves while writing: qui - quoi - quand - où - pourquoi - comment ** Ways you can use this writing program:** ✎ Enhance your writing program by practicing a little every day. ✎ Use the prompts at writing centers Monday - Friday. ✎ Daily 5 rotations ✎ Homework ✎ Writing centers ✎ Fast finishers ✎ Tutoring sessions ✎ No prep sub materials ✎ Morning work ✎ Project on whiteboard for a whole class speaking activity

French weather expressions - Matching pairs game

French weather expressions - Matching pairs game

This communicative activity, based around a classic pairs game, is created as a fun activity to practice students’ French speaking and listening skills around the subject of weather. It is a simple and short activity that encourages students to communicate in French in a natural and conversational way. There are two sheets attached. One colour version of the game, and one black and white, which can be used for younger students as an extended colouring activity. Kids will practice how to say Quel temps fait-il? Il fait froid Il fait chaud Il fait beau Il fait mauvais Il pleut Il neige Il y a du vent Il y a du soleil You will need to print and cut out two copies of one of the weather sheets per game, and the game is played as follows. Students can play in pairs, but for larger classes you could double the students up to have two kids per team. Player1 asks player 2 the question 'Quel temps fait-il?' Player two responds with one of the weather phrases at random, eg. Il pleut Player 1 must turn over two of the il pleut cards. She must try and say the weather phrases on the cards that she picks up. If Player 1 picks the correct two matching cards, she keeps them and has another go. If she picks the wrong cards she puts them back and it is the turn of player 2 to ask ‘Quel temps fait-il?’ and for player 1 to suggest a weather expression to find. The player with the most amount of pairs at the end is the winner.
