French - Pets - Speaking and Listening - Board Game- Presentation

This is a speaking and listening board game to practise talking about pets. Full instructions included with ideas on how to support, extend and differentiate. Pupils play in groups of 2 - 4. They will need counters and a dice - a dice template is included in the powerpoint if needed. Pupils move around the board asking and answering the question ‘As-tu un animal?’ A help sheet is provided, as well as powerpoint slides introducing all of the vocabulary which will be needed. A fun way of practising speaking and listening skills as well as the vocabulary. Introducing the vocabulary and playing the game several times will be enough for the main part of a lesson on the topic.

This worksheet is targeted to KS3 pupils or primary school pupils. On the first page there are crosswords to revise the vocabulary. On the second page, there is a reading exercise with very short descriptions of animals and pupils will guess what animal it is. It is a differentiated exercise with two descriptions to revise the vocab of colours and animals and two descriptions that are more challenging and ideal to practise vocabulary skills with words such as “équitation”. The last exercise is to encourage writing skills to describe an animal, it could also be done as a speaking task.

A bright and interactive PowerPoint presentation to enable pupils to begin building sentences and conduct simple conversations. It covers the first and second person singular of ‘avoir’ so that children are able to ask for and give information about their pets. It also deals with the masculine and feminine singular of adjectives including possessives (mon/ma; ton/ta). There is an accompanying vocabulary sheet, which needs to be studied before embarking on the paired and group conversation activities suggested in the presentation. Several worksheets accompany the PowerPoint: a crossword and word search to support the learning of essential vocabulary, a cloze exercise based on a simple text to be tackled as pupils progress towards sentence work, and finally, a written exercise where the task is to continue a conversation about pets between two friends.

There are two pelmanism-style matching games in this PowerPoint - one with animal vocabulary, and the other family vocabulary. The games can be used in two ways. By clicking the show/hide buttons, all the pairs of French and English words are displayed This screen can then be used as a classroom matching exercise when pupils are first learning the vocabulary. Once they are sure of the words and their meaning, they can play the memory game. The numbers on the front reveal French and English words when clicked. If matching pairs are discovered, they are left showing. If not, clicking the words brings back the numbers. A fun starter or plenary activity for KS2/3.

GAMES WITH GOALS! FRENCH animals bingo games are ideal for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing/spelling skills. They’re also really useful for a focus on definite article and gender. The pack includes 21 non-editable files: ONE & TWO: 40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students select grids randomly from the bowl. Depending on the size of your class, you should have several winners per game!
