This lesson looks at what items we use and how many of them that come from the biosphere. We then think about indigenous tribes and how they use the biosphere and compare the two. It then looks at what goods and services we get from the biosphere. It then looks at the impact this demand has on the biosphere. Mini-case study in biofuels. Then finishes with an exam question.

This lesson looks at how an ecosystem works. It looks at the difference between biotic and abiotic It looks at the nutrient cycle and how this works. It looks at weathering and this affect ecosystems. It looks at photosynthesis and respiration and how they work. It finally looks at how the biosphere and the hydrological cycle interact with each other

Different biomes (Edexcel B 9-1)

This lessons looks at what the different biomes are like (TR, Tundra ect.) Students complete a quiz, quiz trade to get the information on the different biomes. Students then think about why these biomes are different and students introduced to latitude and what impact this has. Students finish with an exam question which can be peer assessed.

This unit of 16 lessons explores the general pattern and characteristics of biomes and ecosystems globally and then looks at tropical rainforests, polar regions and taiga's in detail. All lesson are suitable for 50 minutes to 1 hour of teaching time. Includes supporting worksheets for lessons - no additional resources are required.
