Religious Education: Evaluation Skills (RE)

Never plan an evaluation skills lesson again with this Evaluation Skills resource. All you have to do is enter the topic and let the pupils do the rest. Starter: Debate generator. Our debate generate is packed with 60 generic topics for discussion. Simply click the spin button and stop button to select a topic. The class can then be divided into two to discuss the + & - Add your topic and statement/ question to slides 10 & 25. This will introduce the pupils to the topic and remind them of it when they come to plan. Pupils have doodle note sheets to make notes as the lesson progresses should they wish. Pupils watch a clip of how to structure paragraphs with the PEEL framework. Pupils are given two frameworks to use WAWOS and SONIC (Lower Ability pupils) There are some general rules of thumb for evaluation questions (this is explained) Pupils are taken through how they should divide the time given to them when answering such questions. There is a planning sheet that can be given for each evaluation question. Pupils are also give a marking framework to use during a peer or self assessment (your decision which assessment is used here) There are 6 TeachElite timers in this pack- 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, 6 min, 8 min & 16 min. Plenary: Pupils have a reflective plenary whereby they discuss their learning hurdles. Reflection on Sukkot

The festival of Sukkot occurs from the 15th-22nd of Tishrei, which is falls usually around September or October. It is the Jewish harvest festival and reminds Jewish people of the Israelites’ wandering in the desert for 40 years after receiving the Ten Commandments. During this time the Jewish people lived in temporary shelters or booths made from branches. Sukkot is the Hebrew word for ‘booths.’ Today Jewish people all over the world build sukkahs outside their homes to remember how God protected them and cared for them both in the wilderness and today. Design your own Shofar

The shofar is a musical instrument made from a ram’s horn. The Shofar is used in synagogue to announce the beginning and end of the Jewish festivals of Rosh Hashanah (New Year), and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). The blowing of the shofar symbolises a wake-up call to reflect on the events of the past year, to apologise for any mistakes, and to make changes for the New Year ahead. The Great Debate is a selection of 160 debate questions on 32 easy to print out cards, great for starters, tutor time or full scale debates. Students choose one of 5 debate questions from their card to discuss with their neighbor, group or as part of an individual activity. Additionally students can also take one of 24 Constructive / Destructive response cards, useful for helping students understand the difference between good (constructive) responses, such as using logic and reason - and poor responses such as making up facts or using opinion as fact. Although I often use this theme with KS3/4 as it is based around road signs and being able to accurately read them, so I imagine it would be relevant to KS5 too. The students are asked to reflect on: danger signs, u-turns, give-way, etc. There are gospel references and prayers interwoven.
