GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition - NEA 1- Food Investigation - Live Task - Gluten

GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition - NEA 1- Food Investigation - Live Task - Gluten

This resource has been prepared to help the students tackle the live task for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition, Non-Exam Assessment 1 for the year 2017. It has been specifically designed for the AQA question around gluten formation. It is the first in a series of resources that will allow students to successful complete the non exam assessment element. This resource focuses on introducing the assessment to the students as well as completing the necessary paperwork and understanding the regulations set out by both the exam board and the JQC in regards to non exam assessments. This is a complete lesson that will enable the students to complete the background research of the project and allow them confidently to approach section A. The first part of the lesson focuses on what the students need to do in the task i.e. write a report, explain the importance of referencing and a bibliography. The second part of the lesson allows students to breakdown the task on gluten and pasta and bread making. There are a series of worksheets that help the student: -Worksheet A: This gets the students to think of an early aim and understand the key words from the task. It allows students to think about what they already know. - Worksheet B: This allows students to think about what background research they need to do in order to successfully research the topic. It then asks them to think about where the information comes from. - Worksheet C: Encourages students to keep a bibliography of resources used as they complete their research -Worksheet D: Gets students to think of any suitable experiments for the investigation. This unit is supported by a fully prepared PowerPoint and a student help guide for the entire NEA. It breaks down each section and had some practical planning sheets.

The art of icing cakes, Wayne Thiebaud style

The art of icing cakes, Wayne Thiebaud style

My 12-13 year-olds loved this project because it was all about food which was the perfect subject matter for them... straightforward shapes and vivid colours. We looked at the paintings of Wayne Thiebaud and discussed how he uses shadow and light and his status as the grandfather of pop art. Students will produce two coloured pencil artworks, two acrylic paintings and a ceramic cup cake with a removable top over the course of approximately 10 hours of class time. I've included photos of my students' creations.

Pop-up Paddington

Pop-up Paddington

Pupils design and make their own Paddington pop-up book. Pop-up Paddington is inspired by the joy of Paddington's second film adventure, Paddington 2 (in cinemas November 10). Activities support and encourage pupils to develop communication, active citizenship, problem solving and creative skills. Pop-up Paddington culminates in the creation and evaluation of a pop-up book featuring Paddington carrying out ‘odd jobs' around the community. Pop-up Paddington is designed for learners in Key Stage 2/Second level, with guidance to simplify or extend activities to suit the variety of skills and abilities demonstrated by pupils aged 7-11. It has been created in partnership with STUDIOCANAL. You can round off your Paddington-inspired work by giving each pupil a competition entry form for their chance to win official Paddington goodies for their whole class, plus a special Paddington 2 prize for the winning entrant!
