A classroom activity , a quiz which can be adapted as a team or group game in which students revise previously learnt French idioms. Students see an image and either say or write down the expression to which the picture relates before the answers appear on the screen. 30 pictures/idioms in total. An enjoyable activity incorporating an element of competition for those high-fliers aiming for the top grades.

French: The relative pronoun 'dont'

French: The relative pronoun 'dont'

This resource explicitly outlines the use of the term 'dont' in the context of a story about a young girl who was adopted. There are also subsequent follow up activities, fundamentally exercising the use of 'dont' and other relative pronouns which your students may have previously encountered. This activity is geared towards IGCSE level French and it is also useful for students who are studying A-Level French. Happy teaching and learning!

Claim the parcel translation game Qui suis-je? New GCSE Studio AQA

Claim the parcel translation game Qui suis-je? New GCSE Studio AQA

Claim the parcel translation game Activity for revising different verb tenses and topics from new GCSE AQA books. You have a table with different verbs tenses/sentences and project it on your interactive whiteboard/wall. In groups of 2 (max 3) they write the answer in French to one of the parcels/boxes on their mini white boards, come to you at the front of the class (you check) and if they have the answer correct they can claim the parcel/box. You write their names/team name on a post it notes and stick it over the parcel/box on the interactive whiteboard. Then, no one can do this parcel/box anymore. The winner is the group to have most parcels/boxes claimed at the end. Works well as end of module revision or translation practice. Don't forget to feedback!

On s'entend bien - How well you get on people in French

On s'entend bien - How well you get on people in French

A very comprehensive resource which includes opportunities to practise all the skill areas. It deals with how to say whether you get on with people or not and why. The listening activity is from Expo AQA GCSE but only accounts for one slide. This was originally designed for a 100 minute lesson so would easily be enough for two shorter lessons.

French Idioms: Helping you to achieve the A* you deserve

French Idioms: Helping you to achieve the A* you deserve

As a GCSE examiner I have found that what often identifies a potential A* student is their confident and accurate use of idiomatic phrases. Idioms bring a language to life and can transform a generally accurate and run-of-the-mill piece of writing into something much more interesting and impressive. This resource is therefore aimed at those promising A* students. It is designed not only to provide them with a glossary of 48 useful phrases based on the GCSE topics, but also to provide practice through matching up and gap-filling exercises, a task the students identify the idiom from a definition given and some exercises in which they are required to replace the phrase given with one of the idioms they have learnt. The resource could easily be used as cover work or for those able students to work through on their own. I hope colleagues find it helpful.
