Sectors, Segments and Arc Length Worksheets - With Answers

Sectors, Segments and Arc Length Worksheets - With Answers

A useful set of worksheets aimed at more able students doing higher level GCSE Sectors & Arc Length 1 introduces how to calculate the area of a sector and the length of an arc - both concepts dealt with on one worksheet. Sectors & Arc Length 2 is an enhancement of sheet 1 in that it asks the same questions only more complex and in context, including two sectors combined. Segment Area this worksheet assumes that pupils are familiar with calculating the area of any triangle - it only has 5 or so questions but I don’t think many are needed. Answers are included

Theme Park Challenge - Maths

Theme Park Challenge - Maths

A good “Final Week” style activity which can last over several sessions or be finished in an afternoon. On sale for this final week of the term. Enjoy the Summer! Everything included - just add dice! This is a roleplay experience for children, aimed at Years 4 and above. Using squared paper and the instructions contained within, children design their own Theme park, use dice to generate the number of visitors, and see how much they made. Added problems such as rides not working add variation to each of the five days. Each ride has its own excitement rating and this means that children need to build a balanced park to fit the tastes of everyone. The game guides children and yourself through each of the steps with clear examples given for each step too. Mathematically this requires HTO x O skills, as well as some basic area knowledge (understanding that a footprint of 3x3 for a ride would mean 3 squares by 3 squares, so 9 squares). Custom-made games to fit a theme can be commissioned on request - get in touch!

End of Term Games

End of Term Games

This activities are aimed at key stage 3 students but could be used as revision for students who are revising for their GCSE examination. Each round consists of four questions. Print the slides 8 to 13 on A4 paper and place one printed slide per table. Students are put into pairs (either by choice or teacher selection) and are given a copy of slide 14 and a few sheets of pieces of A4 paper. The pairs are designated a starting table and the timer (slide 2) is started. The students are then given 5 minutes to answer the four questions on that table. Once the five minutes is up the students move clockwise to the next table and start the next set of four questions and the timer of slide 3 is started. This continues until all students have completed the six tables worth of questions. The answering of the questions takes no more than 30 minutes. Students then remain at their final table, swap their answer sheet with the nearest table and the answers are produced. At this stage I go through the questions before revealing the answers. In this way the students have had a go at GCSE style foundation questions and have also seen a demonstration as to how they should have been answered. Finally, students add up their score and the highest score get a prize!

The Area Of Any Triangle with answers

The Area Of Any Triangle with answers

The Area Of Any Triangle is a great worksheet for practicing Sine and Cosine rule and the formula Area = 0.5abSinc. It is aimed at grade 8 and 9 students. There are three different types of questions. Simple - given two sides and the included angle, use the formula to find the area. Harder - decide which angle you need to be able to find the area and then use the Sine rule or Cosine rule to find it first. Applications - finding the area and then using the area to find the shortest distance from one vertex to the opposite side. Answers are included.

Wimbledon 2018 Maths Ideas Mat

Wimbledon 2018 Maths Ideas Mat

This resource is a maths poster giving ideas for different maths activities that use the vast amount of data that can be collected during Wimbledon 2018. The poster is organised using the strands of the curriculum ranging from year 1 to year 6, each one can be adapted to suit the age of the pupils. For number and place value, why not compare attendance figures or find out which is the most expensive ticket. For geometry, consider area and perimeter of the courts, angles of the ball when serving, volleying or taking overhead shots. Ideas presented here would also make a really good transition unit for year 6 pupils , enabling them to practice key skills in a fun context. Don’t forget there is also a wealth of statistical information available on line to explore. If you like this one also see our World Cup 2018 maths ideas mat.

Flashcards for GCSE/IGCSE Mathematics (Formula)

Memorizing formulae has never been a fun thing to do. That is exactly why these flashcards have been designed. This folder consists of three sets of flashcards, with formulae that GCSE/IGCSE students are expected to learn (Quadratic Formula, Pythagoras’ Theorem, Sine Rule, Cosine Rule, and Area of a triangle). This activity can either be done in pairs or small groups and is apt for revision. Simply spare 10 minutes of your lesson for this activity, and your students would have memorized these nauseating formulae before they even realize it!!! An Inquiry Based Maths Project with Measure, Fractions & Data Analysis

An Inquiry Based Maths Project with Measure, Fractions & Data Analysis

Help the chickens escape a life of drudgery with this week long inquiry based math project focusing on animal rights. It offers collaborative learning and hands on inquiry requiring the children to solve problems, think critically and apply their knowledge of measure, area, data analysis, fractions, ratio tables and word problems as they help: Chickens to escape a factory farm with the help of the fastest farm animals Plan and design a chicken farm, chicken coop and run using measure and fractions Research, compare and contrast data of wingspans, analyse data and record their data Build model wings based on measure and research Calculate the amount of food necessary for their chicken farm And much more! Informational text is included that the children will have to identify and use in order to solve the problems. Research will be necessary as the children have to know the various wingspans of certain birds and compare them with chickens. UK & USA spelling included. It culminates in a class presentation of the facts found ,reasoning as to their plan and design of their team’s escape and new chicken coop and run. Comparing and contrasting each group’s work, helps with critical thinking too and communication skills. Wholly differentiated, ( Task B cards are less challenging) you can use it as a summative assessment tool of the skills and standards included. It can be created as a booklet or in a binder, with a front cover included, being used as a goal setting pre assessment for the children. Mix and match the pages to suit your students’ needs. I prefer to have the children work on the design pages individually before they compare their designs within a small group and work together to collaboratively create their group plan of the chicken coop & run and the great escape! This inquiry based math packet is easy to print and go, perfect for an IB PYP Sharing the Planet theme and thoroughly encourages student agency throughout. I designed it for my IB PYP 4th grade class. It can be used 3rd – 5th grade too. You will find the following skills and standards ideally suited for the IB PYP Phases 3 & 4 and CCSS Math for 4th and 5th grade: Number sense and base ten operations Fractions: adding Measure: using measuring tools , area & perimeter Geometry: identifying polygons and angles Data analysis Make math fun, engaging and authentic! You can find many more inquiry based math projects in my store and on my blog. Enjoy! Susan Powers PYPteachingtools.com
