Circle Theorems Revision Exercise #11

Circle Theorems Revision Exercise #11

Recap activity #11 with the Circle Theorems on one page. (Prompted by original pile-up ideas from others on Pythagoras, Trigonometry - and Circle Theorems.) This puzzle is the last in a series of eleven consolidation exercises/angle chases on the topic of Circle Theorems. All of the Circle Theorems are present with “two radii and a chord make an isosceles triangle” and “a radius that is perpendicular to a chord divides the chord into two equal parts” in there too.

Geometry Wordsearch Puzzle Sheet Keywords Settler Starter Cover Lesson Maths Shape Measure

Geometry Wordsearch Puzzle Sheet Keywords Settler Starter Cover Lesson Maths Shape Measure

Wordsearch Puzzle sheet on the theme of ‘Geometry’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Compound Area Reasoning Tasks

Compound Area Reasoning Tasks

Several tasks all based on an Edexcel GCSE question about compound area, including circles and a functional element. These tasks are designed to improve students’ mathematical reasoning and were created as part of the Mathematical Reasoning at GCSE project run by Cambridge Maths Hub. The tasks vary in difficulty, and include work on proportional reasoning, unit conversions (including units of area), error intervals, area of circles and non-circle compound area. They are not intended to be used all together; just pick and choose one or two suitable ones for your class. Thanks to the awesome Mr Barton for the Venn diagram templates. For a similar set of tasks which focus on algebraic expressions for area and perimeter, take a look at https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/algebraic-area-reasoning-tasks-11838759 All feedback very welcome. I’d be really interested to hear which tasks you chose and how you used them!

Geometry Rocks! - Book on properties of 2D and 3D shapes

Geometry Rocks! - Book on properties of 2D and 3D shapes

‘Geometry Rocks’ is a book that I created to help secondary school pupils understand the different properties of 2D and 3D shapes. This book is designed for pupils of all abilities with the content ranging from fundamental properties of basic polygons up to the higher level content involving surface areas and volumes. I hope it proves beneficial.

Problem Solving Video - Dumbo Distance & Time

Problem Solving Video - Dumbo Distance & Time

A video to be used in class either as a starter, to consolidate learning or even as homework. This video poses a real life area problem which requires Maths to solve. Designed to highlight the application of Maths, this video tests understanding of circles and speed/distance/time calculations. It is a good challenge for a GCSE class. Many other problem solving videos available.

Circumference of Circles and Semi Circles ( FUNCTIONAL -PROBLEM SOLVING FITBIT MATHS)

Circumference of Circles and Semi Circles ( FUNCTIONAL -PROBLEM SOLVING FITBIT MATHS)

This great Lesson was planned after teaching a class how to find the circumference of a circle. There are five functional questions involving on the circumference of circles and semi circles. Using the pupils knowledge of a fitbit I created questions which are relevant and more functional with mutli steps to get to the answer. Real life situations are given and the pupils must think about what the question is asking them. All questions involve pupils to find the circumference and apply it to other information given within the question. Excellent as a challenge or as a whole lesson. Answers are provided with reasons for each step so provides easy self-marking opportunities. Great task to engage pupils at the end of term.
