Who W Are Design A T Shirt Back to School Activity

Getting to know your students with this self reflection activity is a win-win, as you encourage them to think critically about the questions in each section of their t shirt. Their thinking is recorded with drawings rather than simply written answers. The back of the t-shirt focuses specifically on Learner Profile and requires a written answer. Throw in some arts and crafts to create the head and shoulders as a self portrait and the final product is a beautifully colourful product that allows everyone to learn a bit more about one another. These look fabulous hanging from the ceiling for back to school night. UK & USA spelling included. With options for more traditional ‘getting-to-know-you” questions as well as the IB PYP transdisciplinary themes, the children have to think about what each theme means to them or how they can answer the questions, illustrating their thinking within the shape on the t shirt, which requires a bit more thought and planning. The back of the t shirt brings the vocabulary of the Learner Profile into review and requires the children to really reflect on themselves as learners. Card Sort: Should the government fund the arts?

We live in an age of government cut backs and competing claims for tax payer funding for social and health care. This outstanding resources has been tried and tested in the classroom over many years and aims to help students understand some of the arguments for and against government funding for the arts. It can be used as a starter, plenary or main activity to accompany any main stream text book or resource on this topic. The nature of the task means that it appeals to the full range of ability. The main activity involves getting students to cut out the cards in lesson, organize them into their most persuasive order and then sick into their books before they have a go at the extended writing activity / discussion. Alternatively, they can create a key and then sort through the cards and then stick the sheet into their book or you could cut out the cards and place them into an envelope for them to sort prior to a discussion on the topic. This is a great resource that can be easily adapted to suit your classroom and expectations. I have designed this for a Year 7 group who will have three lessons of food as part of our schools Enrichment Week. The booklet contains a number of activities, ranging from food crosswords to build a burger challenges, but it also has a big focus on sustainability, where food is coming from, and looking at traditions like the British picnic. Students will also take part in practical work, I will be using two BBQ’s, and students are invited to bring in small amounts of foods like burgers, sausages and kebabs and learn how cook outside. Included is also an information letter for students/parents informing them of what will be going on.

A Brag Tag book is a great alternative to Brag Tag necklaces.  I find using a Brag Tag book much more manageable for my little students, and it’s a great space saver.  When they receive a new Brag Tag I allow them to glue it into their book.   This purchase includes: Over one hundred different color combination and options       to choose from.  You are sure to find one that fits       your classroom. Fifteen black and white options Each book is editable to type the student’s name,   ��   or you can choose to leave it blank and let them        write their name. There are also 2 different recording pages.  On         one page they simply glue their brag tag.  On         the other page they have room to write what their        brag tag means or why they received it. To make the books you can print the front cover on card stock and use a plain piece of card stock for the back.  Then cut all the pages in half and bind the books together using a binding machine.  The books can also be printed double sided and stapled together. If you only have a black and white printer you can use colored paper to give those black and white designs a pop of color! This resource looks at Jewish identity, and is part of a scheme of work about the Shoah/Holocaust. It includes some basic beliefs about G-d (including why Jews often write G-d, instead of God) as well as a brief overview of 1000 years of anti-semitism. It puts the anti-semitism that flared into the Shoah into perspective and I’ve used it mainly with KS3 students. It includes a clip of some survivors testimonies which speak about their experience of antisemitism, and has differentiated tasks that explore quotes from the Torah and Talmud in more depth. Extension tasks also included. Easily adaptable for KS4. Ideal for religious studies, SMSC, citizenship and PHSE. This extensive resource can easily be stretched out to 2, or even 3 lessons. It is intended to educate, and to some extent agitate, young citizenship students to be aware of the global financial situation they are situated in and how some activists perceive it. It includes case studies (e.g. the Raza Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh), articles, extension activities, an exhibition of art by Manchester based artist Polyp (who gave his consent for use of his resources), video clips, kinaesthetic group exercises, think pair share. I’ve thrown it all in into this 53 slides. The length of the resource gives you scope to pick and choose, and hopefully should meet the exact requirements of the class you have. There are also extensions about the banking crisis, and possible solutions, for stretch and challenge tasks or KS5. Learning questions (objectives) include: What is money? Am I rich? What is Exploitation? Is the global money system give a fair deal to all who are part of it? Extension: Is financial inequality out of control, and if so how can it be fixed? This extensive resource aims to meet Citizenship, PHSE, UNESCO Sustainable Development goals (4.7) and is created for a religious studies compulsory group (which combines all of the above curricula in my school) to explore the ethics and develop debating skills. Lesson 2: Uncomfortable Histories (Global Citizenship)

This lesson aims to give students (particularly British ones) some understanding of the histories and activities of Britain we don’t mention as much as the 2nd World War, the Tudors and the Romans. It is an exploration of the slave trade, the arms trade, native american indians, aborigines and transportation and our involvement in India during the empire. It aims to give students an alternative perspective on Britain without undermining them as individuals, invalidating their experience or burdening them with guilt. Hopefully it leads to some interesting discussion and learning. It certainly does in my classroom! Group activities, based on SOLE (Self Organised Learning Environments), which need some monitoring but the resources created would work well with a variety of exercises including marketplace and others. It aims to meet the Global Citizenship Education aims, specifically 4.7 (which focuses on global citizenship education and education for sustainable development). This lesson is an introduction to global citizenship, part of a module on Global citizenship, that begins with a personal look at the individual. It includes youtube videos, mindmaps, one print out and structured questions to help students understand their own biases and the biases of the class they are in. It is a powerful step forward for self reflective learners, uses PELTS well, and incorporates SMSC, Ethics, PHSE, Citizenship and geography into one topic. Tasks are differentiated, with questions going from easy to more difficult. Ideal for KS3-4 (11-16yr olds). Learning Questions include: What is global citizenship? What is my own personal, social, historical and economic background? How might my background affect how I see the world?

All ideas are topical and meet the exam boards’ criteria. This document contains exam board specific (AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR) guidance and student checklists to ensure you can arrange opportunities for students to make the most of their campaign. Examples of campaigns in action are also provided. Note: the OCR exam board provides the biggest remit for campaigning. The other two exam boards (AQA and EDEXCEL) are more prescriptive in what campaigns they like to see with a focus on local and national and less on international reach. It provides, therefore, a new, inclusive, integrated ethical framework to guide the transition to a sustainable future. The Earth Charter is a product of a decade-long, worldwide, cross cultural dialogue on common goals and shared values.
