Discover Pythagoras

Discover Pythagoras

Worksheet leading pupils to discover and prove the Pythagoras Theorem. Pupils need to be aware of vectors as these are used to describe the right-angled triangles - though the worksheet does explain vector notation. There are three pages to the worksheet. Pages 1 and 2 lead pupils through specific right-angled triangles; page 3 helps them generalise their results into the Pythagoras Theorem.

Junior Geometry - Topics 1-10

Junior Geometry - Topics 1-10

Bringing together the 1st 10 of 20 Topics in the GetMathsFit Junior Geometry series. This is over 350 pages of worked exemplar, explanation, definition of meaning & concept, exercises and model solutions. The teaching is logical, sequential and thorough without the need to refer elsewhere. From an introduction to points, lines and angles students explore and learn further characteristics, physical skills and reasoning with plane figures, symmetry, parallel lines, Pythagoras, similarity, congruence and finally proofs and problem solving with angles and parallel lines. Use for in-class introductions, group work, plenaries and differentiation as well as a home self study, revision and reference resource.

Pythagoras Theorem (Topic 6): Worked examples, exercises & model solutions

Pythagoras Theorem (Topic 6): Worked examples, exercises & model solutions

Topic 6 of 20 in the Junior Geometry series demonstrates via a series of worked examples the core calculations of Pythagoras Theorem. Moving on to straightforward applications in 2D & 3D this is a self-contained stand alone resource for self-study and practice. The worked exemplars, exercise questions and model solutions make this a very handy plenary, homework or revision resource.

www.pinpointlearning.co.uk will take your mock QLA (Question Level Analysis) and instantly produce personalised intervention booklets for all your year 11s, thoroughly addressing each student’s individual weaknesses from each paper. The site caters for all our 9to1 papers from Edexcel, AQA and OCR, including the summer 2017 papers, practice sets and the November 2017 papers. The site also produces a combined QLA feature allowing you to see your class and student progress by topic. They will also do some of your mock analysis for you, automatically calculating grade percentages and even displaying class box plots for your department. The latest feature is access to some of our topic resources including answers, with subscribed schools having access to each and every topic. The site is free for all of your mocks so I hope you find it useful.

455 Maths revision sheets, 75 Feedback sheets, 11 Topic sheets, 60 Starters

455 Maths revision sheets, 75 Feedback sheets, 11 Topic sheets, 60 Starters

Visit https://www.maths-resources.co.uk to see thumbnail versions of the 455 revision sheets. 455 Maths revision sheets arranged broadly in order of difficulty. Suitable for Years 7 – 11. Wide range of topics covered. Very useful as homeworks. 75 of these have accompanying “Feedback” sheets, which give worked solutions to many of the questions. In many cases the next sheet has the same questions but using different numbers. Students can study their answers using the Feedback sheet and then aim to get a higher mark for the next sheet. Sheets often cover a range of topics, and the constant repetition has proved to be very effective in ensuring that material previously taught is not forgotten. Worksheets on Circles, Indices, Interior and Exterior Angles, Mean, Median, Mode and Range, Multiples, Factors and Prime Numbers, Percentages, Probability, Properties of Quadrilaterals, Ratio and Proportion, Straight Line Graphs and Tree Diagrams are provided by the 11 topic sheets. In many cases these sheets progress from simple recall questions through to more complex problems. The first 14 Starter sheets cover basic numeracy – addition and subtraction, times tables, negative numbers, fractions, square and cube numbers and simple percentages. After this, other topics are covered. Like the revision sheets, the Starter sheets are arranged broadly in order of difficulty. They are supplied as PowerPoint presentations and well as PDFs. Answers are provided for all the revision sheets, topic sheets and starters.

Pythagoras Activity

Pythagoras Activity

Group activity, first cut out and laminate cards. Hand one card to each student they must match their cards with the correct diagram, this puts them in groups. Then the second activity has problems on each card , one card per group, can then swap and try another one.

Exit Ticket - 3D Pythagoras' Theorem

Exit Ticket - 3D Pythagoras' Theorem

I give this to the students (printed in A4 or A5 depending on how much room they need) at the end of the lesson to assess an overview of the lesson. I mark it as soon as I can (ha) and it allows me to spot any misconceptions. The last question is a challenge one to push the most able students.
